Excellent news regarding the musicians pension fund!

Good News: The American Rescue Plan, including the Butch Lewis Emergency Pension Plan Relief Act of 2021, was enacted by the U.S. House of Representatives today and will be signed into law this week — a victory that will protect the pensions of thousands of AFM members.

Some very good news!

WORKERS' PENSIONS SAVED - HELP IS ON THE WAY.

After years of advocacy by Ohioans and workers around the country who never gave up, the Senate finally passed a version of my BUTCH LEWIS ACT in the American Rescue Plan.

For over a million workers and retirees, the multiemployer pension crisis threatened to take away the retirement security they paid into their entire lives.

Once President Biden signs the American Rescue Plan into law, these workers will finally have peace of mind that they can retire with the dignity they earned.

“I would say to join the union, make every gig you have— have the buyer sign a union contract. That way, if anything goes wrong, the union would go and fight for you. A lot of times, musicians today they get screwed, non-payment, the pay, you know, below the union scale. Union scale is low as it is now, but musicians working— I couldn’t believe they’re working for the percentage of the bar, the percentage of the cover, and that’s it. How can they make a living? Maybe if they have a day job, probably I’m assuming. A lot of my musician friends have two, three jobs they work all week. Me, I’ve always been a union man my whole life.”

Hawaii’s Living Legend, ‘Mr. Percussion’ “Before we started rehearsal, for eight-10 months, we memorized everything and played it…played with feeling. We became very popular for that.” When you talk to Harold Chang, 92, about his moment of fame with Martin Denny (Quiet Village) and the A...

Big shout out to James Corden for his recognition of the musicians on his show last night! ICYMI, here's some of what he said:

"I don't know if anybody at home may have read that the amazing live musicians, who play on all of the different television shows across all of the networks, every network where you see a live group of musicians on TV, have come together to demand better terms for the work that they do. They are using the hashtag . And their union is asking for all of the networks, for better pay, better health-care benefits, better residuals for the shows that they appear in. And look, this show, music is a massive part of this show, and the real reason for that is that musicians have been a massive part of my life... I truly understand the joy that musicians work brings to all of these shows.

And if you'll allow me, I just wanted to say to our band here, how much I absolutely love you so much and value the work that you do on our show and what you bring to the show is indescribable. You elevate everything that we do. And it's not just the music, it's your presence here on screen. You lift everyone here, every single day. And I can honestly say we would be lost without you. I would be distraught without you and I feel so lucky to see every night and watch this incredible group of musicians. We salute you and applaud you now and every single day."

Musicians and working people of America deserve COVID-19 Relief, not an anti-worker Supreme Court nominee.
Instead of orchestrating a Supreme Court power grab at breakneck speed, McConnell should schedule a vote on the HEROES Act so we can provide long-overdue COVID-19 relief to a country in crisis. Make the Call, (866)832-1560. Tell them to Pass the HEROES Act!
