Kamehameha Day Regatta

Mahalo to Kailua Canoe Club for hosting a beautiful day of racing on Kailua Bay in honor of King Kamehameha. From keiki to kupuna, paddlers came together to celebrate competition, culture, and community through our state sport.

Congratulations to all crews who competed and mahalo to the volunteers, officials, coaches, and families who make our regatta season possible.

A beautiful day on the water marked the start of the 2026 OHCRA season at the Clement D. Paiʻāina Regatta. With a packed race course and fierce competition across all divisions, the excitement and talent were on full display.

Mahalo to Healani Canoe Club for hosting a fantastic opening regatta and to all the paddlers, coaches, officials, and volunteers who made the day a success.

If today was any indication, 2026 is going to be a great year.

The wait is over. Canoe racing season begins.

This Sunday, Healani Canoe Club welcomes the paddling community to Keʻehi Lagoon for the 35th Clement D. Paiaina Regatta, the first regatta of the 2026 season.

This year, Healani honors the memory of Coach Babe Bell—a beloved mentor, waterman, and leader whose impact on generations of paddlers continues to be felt today. Known for leading with humility, discipline, and aloha, Babe helped shape not only championship crews, but the culture and spirit of our sport.

As we gather for the season’s opening regatta, we remember Coach Babe Bell and celebrate the legacy he leaves behind.

Forever in our hearts.

Palafamala paddles are legal!
Mahalo

We’ve received many messages from family, friends, and customers with questions about recent paddle rulings and whether their Palafamala paddles would still be eligible for racing.

We’re happy to share that all Palafamala paddles purchased by you and your keiki remain officially legal for use in HCRA and OCHRA events, including major races and regattas such as the Hawaiʻi State Championship Regatta, Nā Wahine O Ke Kai, Molokaʻi Hoe, Duke Kahanamoku, Dad Center Race, and more.

Mahalo for your continued support, trust, and belief in our paddles. We wish everyone a safe, successful, and enjoyable season on the water🤙

Behind every race day is a team of unsung heroes quietly carrying the weight of excellence for our sport.

Our OHCRA CSEC Committee works tirelessly behind the scenes to uphold the standards of our waʻa fleet — carefully weighing canoes, testing waterlines, inspecting specifications, and ensuring the integrity of Hawaiian Koa canoe racing is protected and respected for every crew that takes the water.

This work is meticulous, time-consuming, and often unseen, but it is critical to maintaining fairness, safety, and the legacy of our sport. Their commitment reflects deep respect for the waʻa, for competition, and for the generations of paddlers who came before us and those still to come.

Mahalo to the dedicated hands and eyes that steward this process with such care and professionalism. Your work matters more than most will ever know.
