🧗 It’s Lonely at the Top (ILATT) is a hui for executive leaders of nonprofit organizations that meets monthly. These meetings are often convened online, but we had the opportunity to connect in-person last month. Mahalo to everyone who joined us for our first in-person ILATT gathering of the year!

In addition to spending time connecting one-on-one, we had the opportunity to work in small groups to explore possible actions related to three of the Key Opportunities identified in HANO's recently released State of the Sector Report, The View From Here: Insights from Hawaiʻi Nonprofits. Mahalo nui to the Hawaiʻi Health & Harm Reduction Center for hosting a lovely afternoon with us.

🏫 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: 𝗛𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗶ʻ𝗶 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀
Hawaiʻi Association of Independent Schools (HAIS) provides services and benefits to 100 member schools on Hawai‘i, Kaua‘i, Maui, Moloka‘i and O‘ahu that collectively educate 33,000+ students preschool through 12th grade. HAIS operates with the vision of helping prepare all students for the challenges of life and social responsibility. To that end, HAIS creates opportunities - including programs, professional development and conferences - that all educators are able to access.

📅 Upcoming Events:
⭐ The Admissions Fair is free and open to the public on September 12th from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm at the Ala Moana Hotel by Mantra. About 40 independent schools participate and families can meet with admissions teams from preschool through high school.
⭐ The Schools of the Future Conference, being held on October 21 & 22, 2026, explores a wide range of topics and ideas related to best and emerging practices in education. This conference serves as an opportunity for teachers and administrators across Hawaiʻi’s public, private, and charter schools to reflect upon how to better serve students.

After five years with HANO, we want to extend a heartfelt mahalo and our warmest wishes to Ashley Ancheta Galacgac as she begins her next chapter.

Ashley first joined HANO in an engagement and operations role and later became the Membership & Engagement Manager, supporting our members and the many day-to-day efforts that help HANO serve Hawaiʻi’s nonprofit community.

🏅 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: Hoʻōla iā Mauiakama Disaster Long Term Recovery Group
Hoʻōla iā Mauiakama Disaster Long Term Recovery Group (Hoʻōla LTRG) is helping Lahaina families find their way home after the August 2023 Maui wildfires. Rooted in compassion, coordination and long-term recovery, Hoʻōla LTRG brings together nonprofit, faith-based, governmental and community partners to walk alongside survivors as they rebuild their lives, homes and sense of stability.

Through disaster case management, stabilization support, volunteer coordination, rebuilding assistance and its House to Home Program, Hoʻōla LTRG helps families navigate complex recovery needs and transform rebuilt houses into livable homes filled with comfort and care. The recent home blessing for Valerie Hoʻopai and her ʻohana was a powerful reminder of what partnership can make possible – a family welcomed home with prayer, aloha and the support of many hands.

Hoʻōla LTRG welcomes additional partners who can contribute volunteer time, professional services, contractor support, household goods, funding or other resources to help Lahaina ʻohana continue their journey home. Upcoming efforts include ongoing rebuild support, volunteer opportunities, home blessings and community-centered recovery projects.
