"The ChLA Highlights series continues to showcase the outstanding scholarly contributions of our members using short, engaging videos. It's a great way to spotlight the diverse and impactful research within our community. Here is a highlight of Linguistic, Literary, and Cultural Diversity in a Global Perspective. Our organization, Children's Literature Hawaiʻi, will be holding our twentieth biennial conference on literature and Hawaiʻi’s children in June 2020. A free, three-day celebration for parents, teachers, students, librarians, writers, illustrators, and others interested in children’s literature, our conference promotes three topics of presentations and discussions:
Creating, which helps writers and artists to produce and publish their own works.
Interpreting, which emphasizes different ways of reading and finding meaning in art.
Using, which provides activities for students at home, at school, and at the library.
Children's Literature Hawaiʻi believes that art and literature should be a primary part of every child’s education. We promote opportunities to experience children’s literature through reading, storytelling, art, drama, song, and scholarly discussion. We partner with the English Department at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, the Hawaiʻi Council for the Humanities, and Chaminade University.
