🌴📚 Island Y’D headed to Stevenson Middle School, where our T.I.M. majors shared their presentation on Travel Industry Management. Students got hands-on with a game called Intermodality, acting out planes, buses, and boats in a relay race to learn how the travel industry connects. Mahalo to the T.I.M. School for sharing these opportunities with our students!

⭐️ Staff Highlight ⭐️ Meet Tristan Argayoso, Teen Leader at Mililani YMCA.

Tristan’s connection to the Y goes back to high school, when he started as a volunteer on his summer break. That experience taught him how to communicate, solve problems, and show up with responsibility 🙌 Today he brings that same energy to every shift, and it runs in the family too, since his older brother and sister worked here before him.

Ask Tristan what keeps him coming back and he’ll tell you it’s the people. He says the Y is a place where people feel safe and respected, and where community members can always find a new event, class, or way to get involved.

Mahalo, Tristan, for everything you bring to Atherton YMCA 💙

📚🎉 College Camp 2026 wrapped up with a week built on connection, growth, and exploration. Students toured UH Mānoa, UH West Oʻahu, Leeward Community College, and Chaminade University, getting a firsthand look at campus life and academic offerings ahead of them. They sat in on workshops covering networking, resume writing, and professional presence, then gave back through service at Mohala Farms. Through it all, the friendships built along the way were just as valuable as the lessons learned.

🥥🌿 This summer, Atherton YMCA teens helped Uncle Warren clear overgrown foliage at his farm in Kahaluʻu Regional Park, and learned all about coconuts along the way. Mahalo for the hands-on lesson, Uncle Warren! 🙏

🌱🌴🙂‍↔️ Uncle Leimana welcomed us onto the grounds of Kahina Pōhaku, a traditional Hawaiian loko iʻa on the shores of Molokai. We learned about the many uses of the kukui (candlenut), wove our own pāpale niu (coconut leaf hats) in Uncle Leimana’s own style, and even learned a crab dance on the beach. Every moment with him was full of wisdom, laughter, and aloha. Mahalo Uncle Leimana for opening your land and sharing your heart with us.

🌱🙂‍↔️ Day 2 at Uncle Bobby’s Farm. We braved the rain to learn avocado grafting, prepped Ulei cuttings with root boost, and put them in soil with our own hands. Then we took what we harvested the day before and turned it into a meal together. From the land to the table, right there on the farm. Uncle Bobby gave us two days of knowledge we will carry long after Molokai. Mahalo Uncle Bobby.

⭐️STAFF HIGHLIGHT ⭐️ Meet Dylan Kawabata, one of our amazing Math Tutors!
Dylan looked for a job right out of high school and was drawn to the Y because of its deep, positive influence on people and the community. Today, what he enjoys most about his role is being able to guide and mentor all of the participants in our program.
Swipe through the carousel to read more about Dylan’s journey, his favorite moments seeing introverted teens build the confidence to volunteer, and why he believes investing in the YMCA’s mission creates a positive impact that lasts for generations.
Mahalo, Dylan, for everything you do to lift up our youth and community! 💙📈

Small finds, big meaning. 🌍🌾
Our Molokai ASB 2026 journey started at Uncle Bobby’s farm with an oli for wisdom, followed by a day of hard work, deep learning, and connection to the ʻāina. We cleared invasive weeds, learned about endemic Koʻokoʻolau seedlings, and soaked in lessons you can’t get from a textbook.
Mahalo Uncle Bobby for guiding us! Swipe through to see our crew in action, and stay tuned for Part 2. 👀➡️
