Across Hawaiʻi, Girl Scouts turned cookie donations into something even sweeter: giving back. 🍪

Through the Gift of Caring program, donated Girl Scout Cookies were shared with nonprofits, food banks, schools, first responders, military families, and community organizations on Oʻahu, Maui, Kauaʻi, and Hawaiʻi Island.

Some of the best Girl Scout moments happen outside. From trying something new on the trail to sitting around a campfire, girls build confidence every time they step a little farther and discover what they can do.

In the 1980s, Girl Scouts of Hawaiʻi became an important source of connection for military families moving to and from the islands.

At the time, girls and adults from military families made up about 40% of local membership. Girl Scouts offered a welcoming ʻohana where they could make friends and stay connected to a familiar community.

The decade also left a national mark. In 1989, local artist and Girl Scout alumna Peggy Hopper created a special Hawaiʻi Girl Scout patch. Hawaiʻi musician Melinda Caroll also composed “We Change the World,” which was first performed by Hawaiʻi Girl Scouts before becoming a national Girl Scout theme song.
