NEW, UPDATED LOCATION FOR OUR FREE MASTERCLASS*. Join us at Roosevelt High School Bandroom for a free masterclass hosted by captivating saxophonist, Jeff Kashiwa!

Seattle native, Jeff Kashiwa became known as one of the most compelling young saxophonists in contemporary jazz during his first year with The Rippingtons back in 1989. Kashiwa performed hundreds of shows all over the world and appeared on many of the band’s classic recordings. After a decade with The Rippingtons, Kashiwa’s instincts led him to his solo career. In 2004 he founded The Sax Pack with saxophonists Steve Cole and Kim Waters and released three CDs together. Kashiwa released his 11th solo record titled Sunrise. He is in his 12th year as an Instrumental Ensemble and Music Technology instructor, and Department Chair at Shoreline Community College in Seattle, Washington.

The University of Hawai‘i Saxophone Choir proudly celebrates its 30th Anniversary with the most ambitious and expansive concert in its history.

This landmark performance is highlighted by the world premiere of Ko‘olau— a powerful new work commissioned by the Hawai‘i Saxophone Foundation and written by acclaimed composer and arranger Nathan Tanouye, created especially for this historic occasion.

The ensemble is proud to welcome internationally renowned conductor Professor Jerry Junkin. Junkin is Director of Bands at the University of Texas at Austin, Principal Guest Conductor at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music (Tokyo), Artistic Director and Conductor of the Dallas Winds, and Music Director and Conductor of the Hong KongWind Philharmonia— bringing unmatched artistry and prestige to the podium.

Adding a uniquely local voice to the program, the UH Saxophone Choir will be joined by multi-Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award–winning vocalist and ukulele virtuoso Kelly-Boy Delima of Kapena, who will perform two exclusive original arrangements.

Rounding out this unforgettable evening is the Hawai‘i High School Saxophone Ensemble, led by Michael Bataluna, showcasing the next generation of outstanding island musicians.

Experience the most epic production ever assembled for the University of Hawai‘i Saxophone Choir—ONE NIGHT, ONE STAGE, AND A CELEBRATION 30 YEARS IN THE MAKING.
