Kalihi YMCA The Y: We're for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. I wanted to share some exciting news. March 2017

The YMCA of Honolulu has been recognized for its good work. Charity Navigator is America's premier charity evaluator. Once again, they have awarded our Y a 4 star rating, the highest rating a non profit can receive for its "sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency." As a coveted 4 star organization, we belong to the top quarter of all charities in the country. Of t

he thousands of charities in Hawaii, we are only one of ten to receive a 4 star rating this year. This is the third year in a row that we have received a 4 star -evaluation, which puts us with only 15% of all charities nationally. What means the most to us about this recognition is that it is further evidence that the Y is changing, and in some instances saving, lives. This type of honor would not be possible without the terrific work each of you do every day. A sincere mahalo for your commitment and passion.

If you are an essential worker and need child care, the YMCA is here to help.

Operating under the strict guidelines of the CDC, the YMCA is offering care for school-age children of essential workers while they serve our community during the COVID-19 health crisis. Child care is available Monday through Friday, 6:30 am to 7:30 pm, at the Leeward YMCA in Waipahu, Windward YMCA and Nu’uanu YMCA.

The program includes Distance Learning Assignments/Homework assistance, Indoor and outdoor activities, science, arts, games and more – all practiced with social distancing.

And thanks to the generous support of the Hawaii Community Foundation’s Hawaii Resilience Fund, up to a 100% of financial assistance, based on need, is available to ensure safe child care at the YMCA is affordable for any essential worker who needs it.

The YMCA wants to make sure that essential workers from our health care providers to those keeping our supermarkets, pharmacies, public transportation, utilities, law enforcement, and social services operational in our community have the peace of mind that their children are in a safe place, as they serve all of us during this difficult time.

To register and to apply for financial assistance, go to ymcahonolulu.org.
