Mahalo Nui Loa to Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg for stepping up for Kauaʻi in the wake of Hurricane Lowell.

When the storm hit, many Kauaʻi residents lost more than power and property. They lost work. Because of Priscilla and Mark, Kupu was able to mobilize individuals to do major clearing of debris and fallen trees, restoring access, and helping communities to stabilize.

With Priscilla and Mark's support, Kupu is also hiring dozens of local residents, some of them coming from other careers after the storm disrupted their jobs, keeping them employed and able to provide for their ʻohana. They are helping communities across the island, including DLNR, non-profits, farms, and many others with island recovery efforts. The impact of their generosity will last well beyond the immediate response. The skills they are building now will support future mitigation work that reduces risks from future flooding, fire, wind, and erosion.

We are so stoked to be participating in Aloha Green Week led by our Hawaiʻi Youth Sustainability Challenge alum at Maryknoll Schools! They remind us that every one of our daily habits makes a big impact. This week, businesses, organizations, and individuals are challenged to make the "greener" choices such as:
-using chopsticks over plastic forks in the lunchroom
-deleting old emails
-saying no to extra plastic utensils at take-out
-using a plant-based sponge
-inviting a local pop-up artist at lunch
-tapping into an employee’s talent with a repair, lei, or composting workshop at lunch
- and much more!

We are so proud of our alum who continue to lead and inspire their communities to make a difference!
