In 2007, to meet the needs of Hawaii families of children with special health care needs, the Hawai‘i Pediatric Association Research and Education Foundation (HPAREF) in collaboration with Family Voices of Hawai‘i, partnered together to form the Hilopa‘a Family to Family Health Information Center. Family Voices of Hawai‘i, is a parent-run, state affiliate organization of Family Voices, a national

grassroots network of families, friends and professional partners working to keep families at the center of children's health care. HPAREF, a Hawai‘i 501c3 not for profit organization, seeks to pursue the vision of optimal health and well-being of children and youth in Hawai‘i. It's mission is to support and promote research, education, and service benefiting the children and youth of Hawai‘i. The name Hilopa‘a, was given by Kupuna Kahauanu Lake to exemplify the driving force behind the center, to"braid firmly"the service system for our children and youth. The Hilopa‘a Family to Family Health Information Center is your one-stop for information and referral, technical assistance and training. This Center is staffed by parents and friends of children with special health care needs. We provide free, confidential assistance to families raising children and youth with special health needs, self advocates and the professionals who serve them.

The Hawai‘i Department of Health, Family Health Services Division receives federal and state dollars to support maternal, child and family health programs statewide. The DOH is conducting a needs assessment to better understand your needs and the needs of communities across the islands.

With your help, the DOH can identify the challenges that make it harder for women, pregnant persons, families, children, teens, and children and youth with special needs to get what they need to be healthy.

Visit health.hawaii.gov/mchsurvey to take a brief survey that is completely anonymous. The survey is available in English, Ilocano, Tagalog, and Traditional Chinese (繁體中文).
