Mahalo nui everyone for supporting our National Association of Letter Carriers' Food Drive! Things went very smoothly yesterday and we finished early! Everyone had a good time volunteering for a good cause and it was nice to see many familiar faces. We wanted to share some of the photos of the volunteers that were taken yesterday at IBEW 1186 by the NALC folks and myself.
Here's a short write up on NALC Food Drive if you'd like to add it to your website or newsletters:
Each year, the Hawaii State AFL-CIO is proud to be a sponsor of the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Annual Food Drive in partnership with our sister unions, and the State of Hawaii’s Department of Education. The NALC Food Drive is the largest one-day food drive in our nation and will be held on May 11, 2019! This union driven humanitarian effort helps to ensure our local food banks have enough supplies to meet the need of every child who is lacking a nutritional meal. For many students, the summer months mean the end of regular meals in school causing families who utilize the Free and Reduced Lunch Program to seek food from the food banks.
On April 22, 2019, retired union volunteers came out to collate and mail letters of support from HGEA, HSTA, and 200,000 school fliers to all schools across our state in order to raise awareness of the NALC Food Drive. Mahalo to IBEW 1186 for allowing us to use their facility, to the volunteers from HGEA, HSTA-R, IAM Local 1998, Masons Local 1, and the NALC! This food drive would not be successful if it were not for YOU!
Donation sorting day will be on Saturday, May 11, 2019. On average, over half a million pounds of food is donated statewide through this food drive so we need your kokua! A volunteer form for Oahu is attached and is due on May 1, 2019. If you are on the neighbor islands, please contact your union to see how you can participate. Mahalo nui loa for your effort in participating in the 26th NALC Food Drive and helping those who need it the most.
