Last week, GDH hosted our annual Spring Brain Break for our youth across Oʻahu, and it was a great week all around.
Our keiki came together to take part in arts and crafts, group games, backpack decorating, and creating their own Keiki ID. One of the highlights was our Keiki Kūpuna Day, where our youth had the chance to spend time and connect with our senior clients. It was really special to see those connections form.
We also introduced ʻukulele to many of our participants. For some, it was their first time holding one. By the end of the week, they had learned a few chords and were even able to play a song together. It was nice to see them try something new and build confidence as the week went on.
If your keiki enjoyed Brain Break, or if they’re looking for more opportunities like this, Camp Get Ahead 2026 is coming up this June. It’s a full week of activities, learning, and experiences that our staff, volunteers, and campers truly look forward to each year.
Mahalo to all of our participants, staff, and volunteers who made the week what it was. We’re grateful for the time spent together and look forward to seeing everyone again soon.

This week, clients were given the chance to take part of a workshop we held promoting good communication skills, and how to be a good listener.

This workshop, in keeping with our theme of building relationships and connecting with others, provided a ton of information and resources for our clients to take advantage of. Information such as remembering that along with knowing how to communicate, it is also very important we know how to listen and recieve information as well.

We wanted to express our deepest mahalo to Elderly Affairs for coming out to our office and sharing a wonderful presentation with us.

If you are interested in participating in our positive aging workshops, please give us a call to register.

Meet guide dog Leale, the second newest member of the GDH ohana.

Just shy of her second birthday, Leale has already proven to be a valuable partner, ensuring the safety of herself and her handler.

Leale is a yellow lab, and like Saylor is from Leader Dogs for the Blind.

We are very excited to see the journey and growth of Hawaii's newest guide dog team.

Meet guide dog Saylor, the newest addition to the GDH Ohana! 🐾

Saylor is a beautiful black Lab, nearly two years old, and already a very crucial part of the strong bond and partnership she is building with her handler. Her dedication, intelligence, and loving spirit truly embody what it means to be a guide dog.

We are so excited to officially welcome Saylor to our GDH family and can’t wait to watch her grow and become apart of the guide dog community of Hawaii.
