Greetings!! On this date, the following Tuskegee Airmen events occurred:

7 August 1943: Tuskegee Army Air Field celebrated its second anniversary, a day after the actual anniversary. Lt. Col. Noel Parrish gave a speech and base band performed in Hangar no. 3, and the P-40 and advanced trainer aircraft were placed on display near the “broad sun-bathed runways.” (Hawk’s Cry, vol. 7 August 1944: The 332nd Fighter Group es**rted B-24s of the 55th Bombardment Wing and B-17s of the 5th Bombardment Wing to raid enemy oil refineries at Blechhammer. One Me-109 dove through the bombers during the raid. Bombers were shot down that day, but after the 332nd Fighter Group had finished es**rting them (332nd Fighter Group mission report number 46 and Missing Air Crew Reports for 7 August 1944). Lt. Alfred Gorham of the 301st Fighter Squadron, 332nd Fighter Group, got lost
while returning from the Blechhammer mission. After dark, he attempted to land at Lesina Airfield, home of the 325th Fighter Group not far from Ramitelli, but the field was not equipped with airfield lights. Gorham undershot the runway and crashed into Lake Lesina. The P-51 caught fire when it hit the water, but Gorham survived. (Aircraft accident report 45-8-7-527 at Air Force Historical Research Agency)

7 August 1945: Pilots assigned to the 99th Fighter Squadron flew their final mission in Italy. (Craig Huntly)
