Thank you Captain Koellner for having us. Thank you to Chief Warrant Officer 2 Serrato, Warrant Officer 1 Baranowsky and Staff Sergeant Endres for showing the Cadets the CH-47 Chinook in flight. Thank you to Sergeant First Class MacDonald and Senior Member MacDonald for the very informative briefing, the great Chinook videos, and giving the Cadets the opportunity to explore the CH-47. November and December promotions were conducted at the holiday party on 14 December 2024. Congratulations to the 21 hard working Cadets who were promoted!

Sun Tzu said, "In the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity."

These Cadets are continually working to balance all kinds of things from school, to sports, volunteering, church obligations, family obligations, work and Civil Air Patrol. These young leaders continually strive to give their best in all aspects of their lives. Their hard work and dedication to their growth is evident in their actions.

Congratulations to Cadet Second Lieutenant How and Cadet Second Lieutenant Mansoor. These Cadets earned their Billy Mitchell Award and the rank of Cadet Second Lieutenant.

The Brigadier General Billy Mitchell Award honors a fearless pilot whose patriotism, foresight, and tenacity surpassed the ridicule he faced. The "Father of the Independent Air Force," Billy Mitchell led an aerial bombing demonstration resulting in the sinking of the surplus German battleship Ostfriesland in 1921. The Navy had said such a feat would be impossible, and the Army remained skeptical toward airpower. Mitchell continued his all-out public campaign for airpower, even facing court-martial for his persistence. He knew that in the new "aeronautical era," military airpower, operating independently of ground and sea forces, needed to be the first line of defense. Not until World War II did the full U.S. military establishment realize how right he was. After the Allied victory, and by a special act of Congress, Mitchell was posthumously awarded a gold medal. With General Mitchell as their role model, cadet officers know that speaking truth to power is a moral duty.
The Mitchell Award marks completion of Phase II of the CAP Cadet Program, recognizing sustained excellence in all four areas of cadet life: leadership, aerospace, fitness, and character. Further, Mitchell cadets must have passed comprehensive examinations on leadership and aerospace topics and have completed a weeklong encampment immersing them in a challenging Core Values and Stem environment.
The U.S. Air Force respects Mitchell Award recipients’ accomplishments. Mitchell cadets who enlist in the Air Force enter the service at the advanced grade of E-3, Airman First Class. The service also looks favorably upon Mitchell cadets when evaluating AFROTC and Academy applicants. Once a cadet earns the Mitchell Award, he or she becomes a cadet officer, is promoted to the grade of cadet second lieutenant, and is challenged to lead and serve junior-ranking cadets, while continuing to
develop into a “dynamic American and aerospace leader.”

Cadets from the Civil Air Patrol, Wheeler Composite Squadron joined with members of their local community to honor the resting Soldiers at the Schofield Barracks Cemetary on 14 December 2024 as part of the Wreaths Across America program. When a volunteer places a wreath on a veteran's grave on National Wreaths Across America Day, they are encouraged to speak that veteran's name aloud, thank them for their service and sacrifice, and reflect on that person and their life. The Wheeler Composite Squadron would like to thank Col (ret) William Spincola for being our keynote speaker this year. We would also like to thank all of our volunteers and the organizations who supported us. We look forward to seeing you all again next year.

12/15/2024

The Wheeler Composite Squadron would like to express our heartfelt appreciation for everyone who contributed to our Wreaths Across America Ceremony. We were overwhelmed with gratitude for the amount of donations, and the volunteer support we received as we honored our resting Solders at the Schofield Barracks Cemetery this morning. The honor, respect and selfless service we witnessed today truly exemplified the values we strive to embody, and instill in our growing leaders. Thank you all for leading by example.
