Knowing what to do when someone has a seizure can make a difference. 💜

Mahalo to the Hawai'i Student Nurses Association for welcoming us to share seizure first aid education, and to Rina and Jackie for leading the presentation!

We’re grateful for the opportunity to help future nurses feel better prepared to recognize seizures, respond with care, and support people living with epilepsy.

Interested in seizure first aid education for your school, workplace, or community group? Send us a message to learn more!

💜🐾 A Little Purple Pouch, a Neurologist, and a Sunday Surprise!

You just never know who lives up the street! 😂

Meet Dr. Baye Williamson, Hawaii's ONLY board-certified veterinarian neurologist who treats animals with neurological conditions, including EPILEPSY! 🐶🐱

She purchased two of our Sophia Collection pouches, and when I saw her address, I thought... WAIT A MINUTE! She's practically my neighbor! 😲

So today, I walked up the street to meet her, and WOW, did I learn a lot!

Did you know dogs can have epilepsy, too? And just like humans, they can take medications to help manage their seizures!

But here's the BEST part... she's agreed to join us at our FREE November 7th Epilepsy Conference to share a little about epilepsy in our four-legged family members! 🎉

Who knew a little purple pouch could bring two worlds of neurology together?!

Pouch with a Purpose? You BET! 💜

Sometimes the best connections are literally right up the street! 😂🐾

Big news for our neighbor islands 💜

We’re now an official Trusted Partner of Nā Puʻuwai Native Hawaiian Health Care System. That means more epilepsy education and support for families on Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi.

Through this new partnership, we look forward to exploring opportunities to bring epilepsy education, resources, programs and support to more individuals and families across our neighbor islands.

No one should face epilepsy alone, on any island. Mahalo, Nā Puʻuwai! 🤝💜

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day, and there's a part of epilepsy we don't talk about enough: your mental health. 💜

Nearly 1 in 3 people with epilepsy also experience depression, and anxiety is common too. The stress of unpredictable seizures, the isolation, the fear: it's a lot to carry, and none of it means anything is wrong with you.

If today is heavy, please reach out:
📞 Call or text 988 (Su***de & Crisis Lifeline), free and available 24/7.
💬 Talk to your neurologist about your mental health, not only your seizures.
🤝 Download our app for community and support https://apps.apple.com/us/app/epilepsy-foundation-of-hawaii/id6758485551 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.createcommunity.epilepsyfoundationofhawaii&pcampaignid=web_share

You are not a burden. You are not alone and support is closer than it feels right now. Save this, and send it to someone who needs it today.

We're finalists in two categories at the 2026 Pacific Edge Magazine Business Achievement Awards, and it still feels a little surreal. 💜

🏆 Non-Profit Impact
🏆 Women of the Year, honoring our CEO & Executive Director, Toni Muranaka

Toni's first 18 months here brought real growth and visibility to Hawaiʻi's epilepsy community. In that time, twelve new programs and initiatives took shape. Here's what that looked like:

💜 Epilep-See™: an original card game that makes learning about epilepsy, seizure safety and common myths actually fun.
⛳ Drive Out Epilepsy: a family-friendly driving range event using golf to take a swing at stigma.
📣 Ammon's Horn: a physician session bringing medical pros together to advance epilepsy care.
🔥 Wall of Flame: a storytelling project sharing the faces and stories of people living with epilepsy.
🤝 E-Kōkua Club: connection and belonging for people affected by epilepsy.
📱 Create Community: an app linking adults with epilepsy, newly diagnosed folks and caregivers through support groups.
🪨 EFH Rocks: painted epilepsy-themed rocks hidden around the community to spark conversation.
🛍️ Connection Collection Store: mission-driven products that make epilepsy visible. Next up, a lunch bag built with medication storage in mind.
🌺 The Sophia Collection: everyday items reimagined as conversation starters for awareness.
📞 National Epilepsy Helpline – Hawaiʻi Team: local staff answering the national helpline for families here and beyond our islands.
🏫 Seizure First Aid & statewide outreach: seizure recognition and first-aid training for schools, orgs and communities across Hawaiʻi.
✈️ Seizure Safe Skies: our newest initiative, focused on seizure awareness and emergency prep in air travel.

Twelve programs, one purpose: make epilepsy visible, start conversations, and stop the stigma.

Mahalo to Pacific Edge Magazine for seeing the work, and to our board, staff, volunteers, sponsors, partners and epilepsy ʻohana who make all of it possible. Toni's the first to say no one builds this alone.

If you've run into any of these around the islands, tell us. We love hearing it.

Today, on Queen Liliʻuokalani’s birthday, we’re celebrating the story behind a flower that holds a special place in Hawaiʻi and in our epilepsy community. 💜

Made exclusively by ALOHA Collection and inspired by our Teen Representative, Sophia Owen, this collection honors every individual and family living with epilepsy across our islands. Each bloom in the design reflects something we know deeply: no two epilepsy journeys look exactly the same, but there is strength in every one.

And you showed this collection so much love that our Crown of Strength totes are officially SOLD OUT! 🥹💜 However, we still have a limited number of pouches available!

Already carrying your Crown of Strength bag? We want to see it! 📸💜 Tag us in your photos and use and so we can see our community carrying this story across Hawaiʻi and beyond.

Today, we return to where this collection began: with a flower beloved by Hawaiʻi’s Queen.

Happy Birthday, Queen Liliʻuokalani. 💜👑
