A Special Sadako Peace Projects: Connecting Students from Hiroshima and Hawaiʻi 🕊️🌏
On August 29, JASH, in collaboration with Pacific Historic Parks, hosted a special Sadako Peace Projects at the Pearl Harbor National Memorial.
🌸 Seven visiting students from Hiroshima joined high school student volunteers from University Laboratory School and Punahou School for a meaningful morning centered on Sadako Sasaki’s story and her message of peace.
🤝 The students began with an icebreaker to get to know one another, then took part in two activities — folding peace cranes with memorial visitors and learning together in the Education Classroom.
🎤 The Hiroshima students also shared a presentation about life in Hiroshima, the history of the atomic bombing, and their own thoughts on peace, giving Hawaiʻi students a special opportunity to learn directly from their experiences and perspectives.
🕊️ While folding cranes, the students shared Sadako’s story with visitors from across the United States, London, Japan, Egypt, and Australia — creating connections that reached far beyond Hawaiʻi and Hiroshima.

Together, these young people helped carry forward Sadako’s enduring message of peace, hope, and connection. ✨
