Hawaii Climbing Coalition - HCC

Hawaii Climbing Coalition - HCC Rock climbers in Hawaii dedicated to protecting access to climbing areas, providing safety information, and protecting the environment.

HCC was developed in order to regain access to Hawaii’s crown jewel of climbing: the Mokuleia Wall. Hawaii’s rock climbers have a long tradition of embracing fastidious safety measures, detailed record keeping, and environmental stewardship for all of our crags. However, the legal climate in Hawaii is such that liability has become a pressing concern for our State officials - and has led to area c

losures in the past. Most public land in Hawaii is controlled by the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) and in order to mitigate some of DLNR’s concerns about liability stemming from rock climbing, the Hawaii Climbing Coalition (HCC) was formed. We now carry on our practices of hardware vigilance, record keeping, and environmental stewardship in an official capacity through a Revocable Permit issued by DLNR. We are entirely staffed by volunteers and our membership is made up of both residents and visitors alike who all share a common passion for climbing at the finest crag in Hawaii.

Just got word that all the strings and dowels were taken from Mokuleia again. If you know who continues to steal the strings and dowels please let me or another one of the HCC board members know. The area is managed by the Hawaii Climbing Coalition and the decision to remove the strings is not theirs to make.

Sometime over the past week someone took all the strings, dowels, and extra paracord from the Mokuleia wall. If you have information about who these individuals are please let the Hawaii Climbing Coalition know.

Please also know that it is the policy and practice of the HCC to utilize the string system and any individual acting unilaterally against this policy is doing so without the permission or authorization of the HCC.

The materials will have to be replaced by the Coalition, which is already operating on limited funds. Funds which were going to be used for trail maintenance and erosion control will now have to be repurosed.

This is not the first time that someone has stolen all the strings and dowels but we want it to be the last. Please notify us with information about this theft so we can address this situation

A HUUUUUUUUGE thank you to everyone that gave up their Saturday to help us out at the clean up yesterday! We got an incredible amount of work done on the trail and at the crag 💪🏽
We had a quite the range of folks come out to help, from those who frequently devote their time to taking care of this place to those who had never been up to the crag before!

Thank you also to everyone who stayed off the trail from 9am-1pm so our volunteers could work. We really appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding.

And thank you to and for donating swag for us to raffle off to our volunteers! We super appreciate the support, and the volunteers super appreciated being appreciated 🙂

And of course, a huge shout out and mahalo to our friends at for working with us! ❤️

Reminder: please do not climb between 9am and 1pm on Saturday, March 19. We know Saturdays are a regular climbing day for some, sometimes the only day folks can get out to climb. But, in the interest of everyone’s safety, we’re asking climbers to stay off the cliff unless they’re participating in the clean up. And if Saturday is the only day you can climb, we’d be stoked to see you at the clean up instead! 💃🏻 Registration link: https://forms.gle/DUETJhLVjPZA3yk97

Thank you for your understanding! 🙏🏽

We’re stoked for our crag clean up and trail maintenance day on March 19! If you can join us, please RSVP at this link: https://forms.gle/DUETJhLVjPZA3yk97. Unfortunately, we’re limited to 25 volunteers, so space is limited.

We are strongly encouraging folks not to climb on 3/19 from 9am to 1pm as a safety precaution and to ensure volunteers have unrestricted access to work areas. There will be lots going on as well as a lot of noise that can interfere with the safety of climbers.

If you’d like to help out, but can’t make it, both our and ’s PayPal links are here: https://lnk.bio/i6MQ. Donations help to fund projects like this, as well as general maintenance throughout the year!

And finally, if you have any questions, would like to attend but the form is closed, RSVP’d but something came up and you can’t make it, please shoot us an email at [email protected] 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
