Behind every statistic in our report is a story like this one. These are our neighbors, our classmates, our community.

“I fear that my family won’t be able to afford to stay here.”

Unfortunately, we heard some version of this again and again. When our young leaders sat down with 405 locals across Hawaiʻi, the high cost of living came up more than any other concern. Gas, groceries, rent, insurance: the “price of paradise” is weighing on families in every county, and many are wondering how long they can hold on.

These aren’t just numbers. They’re our aunties, our classmates, our neighbors.

📖 Learn more about what our neighbors have said in the Facing our Fears: Listening to Hawaiʻi at the link in our bio.

When you stop to listen, you learn that our local people have so much to say.

For 7 months, Vanguard, CTL’s alumni network, have done just that. With pen and notepad in hand, they went into people’s homes, garages, workplaces, to hear from the middle.

The findings are not the end of the conversation. It’s the beginning.

Learning beyond the classroom! Our Summer in Hawai'i had the incredible opportunity to visit H Power, where they explored how Oʻahu transforms waste into energy. ♻️⚡

From sustainability to innovation, this experience gave our students a firsthand look at the importance of environmental stewardship and the technology helping build a cleaner future for Hawaiʻi.

Mahalo to the H-POWER team for an engaging and inspiring tour! 🌱🌈
