At the Joint Memorial Service (JMS) at Punchbowl, we honored all WWII JA veterans, those who perished during the war, and those who have since passed. MIS Veterans Hawai'i members helped: several of our members helped Saturday with flag distribution and grave decorating, Michael Akira Austin (grandson of Wilbert Toda) was a Young Adult speaker at the Sunday service, Marian Kubota (MIS widow) presented a flower on behalf of MIS Veterans Hawai'i, and others helped out in various ways. Mahalo nui to Club 100 for your awesome organization, and to all volunteers who helped make this year's JMS such a beautiful and meaningful ceremony...🫡❤️🤍💙🇺🇸🤙🏾

Our former MIS president and long-time member, Gov. George Ariyoshi, was remembered at funeral services on Sept 18-19. Mahalo nui to our MIS Veterans Hawai’i volunteers who covered a 26-hour round-the-clock vigil as he lay in state, standing watch in the Capitol Rotunda and then at Kawaiaha’o church. It was our kuleana and honor to serve our beloved governor and his ‘ohana. May he forever rest in aloha…❤️🤍💙🌺

Did you know... for Gov. George Ariyoshi's funeral and visitation this Friday 9/18 and Saturday 9/19, volunteers from MIS Veterans Hawai'i will be standing in an all-day and overnight vigil? We will be keeping watch over his casket, in shifts, for 26 straight hours as he lies in state. (Gov. Ariyoshi served in the MIS during WWII. He was a past president and long-time member of our club). We are proud of the dedication of our volunteers, showing their respect and aloha for our beloved former governor... 🇺🇸🩷🤍💙🤙🏽🌺

Members of the general public have several opportunities later this week to pay respects to late Hawaii Gov. George Ariyoshi and his family, starting with a visitation and ceremony Friday at the state Capitol.

Our MIS Veterans Hawai'i member and past president, Gov. George Ariyoshi, passed away on April 19, 2026 at age 100. We have been asked to share information about his services with our members and friends.

On July 27, we remembered WWII MIS Veteran W***y Toda who passed away in June. The beautiful memorial service deeply touched everyone in attendance. Consul General of Japan Chōtoku Hideaki gave a heartfelt speech, followed by remembrances from family and friends. MC Dalton Tanonaka kept everything running smoothly. Mahalo to the Toda family for such a wonderful, touching service. Rest in Aloha, dear W***y...😢🫡❤️🤍💙🇺🇸🤙🏾

Our beloved member and WWII MIS veteran, 99-year-old Wilbert "W***y" Toda, passed away peacefully last Monday, surrounded by family.

The Toda family was very proud of all his accomplishments. W***y had a great attitude, especially when he wore his white MIS dress shirt and his WWII Veteran cap. MIS Veterans Hawai'i sends our deepest sympathies to the Toda family and all W***y's family & friends in this difficult time.

MIS Veterans Hawai'i held its annual Shinnen Enkai at Natsunoya in 'Ālewa Heights, and celebrated the 99th birthday of WWII veteran Wilbert Toda! We also honored Gov. George Ariyoshi, our MIS member who recently passed away at age 100. Our event was led by several from the Yonsei generation, who acted as MC and gave several presentations. There was also great entertainment by W***y's grandchildren and the Toda family band, "Coffee and Me." Hau'oli Lā Hānau, dear W***y!! (📸: Alec/Melissa) 🎂❤️🤍💙🇺🇸🤙🏾

“MIS Veterans Hawai’i is saddened to learn of the passing of our former governor, George Ariyoshi. He was an MIS (Military Intelligence Service) member during WWII. MIS soldiers translated confiscated documents and maps and it has been said that this helped shorten the war by 2 years. We are proud that Gov. Ariyoshi was our longtime member. We send condolences to his ‘ohana, and we thank him for his lifetime of service.

In a statement, his wife Jean said the former governor died Sunday night, surrounded by family.

The Nisei Soldier Traveling Exhibit opened on Feb 23 at the MIS Historic Learning Center, SF. The exhibit includes artifacts and stories of many WWII soldiers, and will be open until Aug 31 before traveling to Honolulu and 9 other cities. Highly recommend seeing the exhibit at this SF venue, as visitors will be able to view the permanent MIS exhibit, in addition to the traveling exhibit.🇺🇸🤙🏾
