The Nisei Soldier Traveling Exhibit opened on Feb 23 at the MIS Historic Learning Center, SF. The exhibit includes artifacts and stories of many WWII soldiers, and will be open until Aug 31 before traveling to Honolulu and 9 other cities. Highly recommend seeing the exhibit at this SF venue, as visitors will be able to view the permanent MIS exhibit, in addition to the traveling exhibit.🇺🇸🤙🏾

On Monday, Jan 26, seven Nisei soldiers were honored at a posthumous commissioning ceremony with their appointment to second lieutenant. These seven initially served in the UH ROTC and the Hawaiʻi Territorial Guard, but were barred from service due to the racism of the time. They later volunteered in the Varsity Victory Volunteers, then with the 442nd RCT. All seven died in battle, bravely fighting for the U.S. We will never forget their sacrifices, which give us the freedoms we enjoy today. 🇺🇸💜❤️ See video of ceremony: https://www.dvidshub.net/video/993872/more-than-eight-decades-later-uh-rotc-cadets-receive-earned-commissions

During a game on Thursday, 11/20, the UH Men's Basketball team honored the historic 442nd Regimental Combat Team at halftime, with 28 members being recognized on the floor. The players all wore the 442nd RCT's "Go For Broke" patch on their uniforms. (Many WWII MIS soldiers were transferred from the 442nd RCT.) Thank you, UH Basketball for honoring the Nisei Veterans! Meaningful Veterans Day observances were held across the islands. At the Kaua'i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapēpē, county and state officials paid tribute to military veterans on a beautiful, blustery day. All the graves were beautifully decorated with bouquets, orchid lei and lei lā'ī, provided by volunteer groups, including the grave of WWII MIS KIA soldier, Kazuyoshi Inouye. Mahalo to all military veterans for your service! 🇺🇸❤️🤙🏾
