Mahalo to everyone who joined us for this August's YP Professional Development Class: The EQ Advantage: Leading With Emotional Intelligence, presented by Kaiser Permanente!

We were so grateful to learn from Jane Chen, co-founder of Embrace Global, whose portable incubator has saved more than a million premature babies, and author of the memoir Like A Wave We Break. Jane walked us through the science behind emotional intelligence and her "Whole-Body Yes" framework for making decisions and holding boundaries with confidence. Our members left inspired, with practical tools to lead with greater self-awareness, empathy, and impact.

Mahalo, Jane, for sharing your wisdom, and mahalo to Kaiser Permanente for making the YP PDC Series possible and investing in Hawaiʻi's next generation of leaders!

Mahalo to everyone who joined us for this month’s YP Professional Development Class! 🌺 Presented by Kaiser Permanente, we had the opportunity to talk story with Chris Iwamura, CEO of Rainbow Drive-In, about his journey from California’s tech industry back home to Hawaii and into his family’s business.

Chris shared his perspective on navigating a non-linear career path, balancing legacy with innovation, mentorship, and what it means to lead with people at the center. Mahalo, Chris, for such an open and thoughtful conversation and for sharing your experiences with our YP community!

For this Mana Monday, we are recognizing Richmond Luzar, Founder & Principal of Aura Strategies, a public interest consulting firm specializing in nonprofit lobbying. Since its inception in 2025, the firm has passed multiple measures in the housing and healthcare sectors and secured more than $500,000 in government grants. Richmond recently received Pacific Business News’ 40 Under 40 award.

Before Aura Strategies, Richmond served as a Policy and Communications Director at the Honolulu City Council and worked as a lobbyist at a local firm. He is a member of the YP Civic Engagement Committee, which is currently preparing for the annual Cost of Living Summit on October 15.

When asked why he continues to renew his YP membership, he says, “Young people aren’t just the leaders of the future, we’re the leaders now. The more we get to know each other, the more good things we can get done.”

60 young professionals on our Cost of Living Housing Bus Tour were asked if they know someone who left Hawaiʻi and isn't coming back. Nearly every hand went up✋.

YP member Erika Galarneau was on that bus and shares the story in Hawaii Business Magazine. The group toured three Oʻahu housing developments with Housing Hawaiʻi's Future, then mapped out the neighborhoods they want to call home.

What would it take for you to stay? Help us answer that at the 4th Annual YP Cost of Living Summit, presented by Tradewind Group, on October 15.
