Mahalo nui to all of the amazing crews (many pictured here and many, not pictured here) who have stepped up to help safely deliver food to those trapped in union plaza.
Everyone has been forced out except one person. He is taking a stand, but also, he has nowhere to go. Leads (please don’t say IHS or other shelter… ) are appreciated, as he misses his wife and baby daughter, and desperately needs fresh air and human contact. His mental health is taking a beating with all of this trauma, and he really needs support.
We were able to get him a bag of food & light tonight. There was again a bit of struggle but Aloha prevailed. Mahalo nui to the SlappRadio crew, Poco compehos (who also helped me drive food to other tenants, many of whom are literally on the streets but still so strong in spirit) and also to those who opposed us but we were able to leave as ʻōhana (btw we also ran into Keala Kahuanui Paleka & although we still do not agree, we were able to restore aloha there as well).
Mahalo NUI to all who have been standing with us. Healani Sonoda-Pale you and the wahine warriors are frickin beautiful!!
Mahalo to our Food Not Bombs Oʻahu crew who work hard stocking us in so many ways.
Mahalo to all of you out there who have been sending p**e and sometimes more. It really keeps us going.
I am going to have to step away for a bit to do something, but I also want to emphasize that THIS IS NOT OVER. These legal tenants (since some people do not understand this, so here are the basics: anyone with a lease becomes a month-to-month tenant at the expiration of that lease. They can only be evicted by a court, and they can only be removed by a sheriff. None of that happened, and many of these tenants we’re fully validated by the courts, but when the landlord refused to follow the court orders, no one enforced it and HPD even colluded with the landlord in so many crazy ways) need help to fight for their rights, which have been trampled and burned, but NOT erased.
In the meantime, the person trapped in the building (yes there is still a large lock on the outside of the only fire escape) needs a lot of support over the next few days. HMU. 🩷🤙🏽🌿

Stand up for Kănăwai Mămalahoe and all human rights!!
The corruption and abuses that have taken place in this standoff should be totally unacceptable in our kingdom.. Period.

In the process of rebuilding a nation of peace, we must begin with the foundation of human rights our kūpuna left us. otherwise, we are no better than any of the other corrupt corporations calling themselves nations in the world.

( & ): it was a short visit, but so inspiring! Our hearts are so full of aloha for the beautiful, strong people of this beloved ʻāina!! We got our kiaʻi braddah Poco compehos set up with a solid bike (mahalo nui Seventh Generation Fund for Indigenous Peoples!) to serve Pāhala & Wood Valley - please let him know if there are special needs, especially if there are people who may be isolated or just not going to hubs for any reason and may need stuff. He & his team set up an awesome resource point (not calling it a hub to avoid confusion as it is a few miles up the valley, which is still pretty bussup & dangerous) in Kaʻiliʻula, focusing on producing organic, ʻāina-based foods and medicines for the community. Poco is a trusted kiaʻi who can handle sensitive situations and also a homebirth dad with extensive womenʻs health comprehension (he is on our Ea Hānau council as a mākua advisor & has learned a lot in collaboration with our dear Tara Mansfield Compehos!) as well as with mauimedichealershui so donʻt be afraid to call on him! & so many others in Pāhala doing wonderful work too! Uncle Cy directing resources st the main community center hub, Aahuikekapalani Kahiwalani & strong community team rockin the highway distro, all kine folks setting up on their own to help people directly —das how!!
I was sad I ran out of time and didn’t get to stop in Naʻalehu, but did go to Waiohinu, which was also amazing! Unfortunately I didnt read auntie Barbara Cornelius-Davis text properly, and got stuck in her driveway, for which I got well-earned scoldings (best kupuna quote of the day: “Real Aloha is a swift kick in da ʻōkole!”), but thanks to her awesome ʻohana we got out and made it to the Waiohinu hub, where we got to see our beautiful kiaʻi and hear so many powerful stories. Mahalo nui ‘Iewe Hānau o ka ‘Āina and Genuine Aloha and do many others for your amazing work!!

please, everyone, support Kaʻū!! There is still a LOT of need, and a LOT of work being done with very little support yet. There are also other communities off the main areas, such as Ocean View and even parts of Puna, that are affected and fo not have the resource access that the places with hubs do.

There is nothing like working through a hurricane with a whole bunch of midwives, of so many kinds!
Mahalo NUI for all who worked hard, sacrificed family time, held space, gave so much and and so much more. I canʻt even begin to express how amazing you all are. Generations of knowledge, fortitude, healing and aloha!!

Our prayers were strong for all of the people, beings & ʻāina affected by the storm (switching modes now to gear up for some storm response stuff - let us know if there is stuff we can specifically help with and we will do our best!). Didnʻt get to meet up with Food Not Bombs — Hilo this time but got to deliver a whole bunch of vegetarian wraps with fruit chips kim chee etc to the bus depot the next day!

And one thing we are never lacking in is opportunities to help and therefore connect — so, until we meet again!

50 years of Kahoʻolawe Aloha ʻĀina!! Sorry we were there so short - it was also our food not bombs cooking/hauling/packing/serving day that required 3 trips across the island! But so glad we got to see so many beautiful people, perform (omg frickin Liko busting out an unpracticed kī hōʻalu “ʻAʻole RIMPAC” as the FIRST song, and then getting all serious when I tried to protest [“for George! George would have loved it!”]), share great, important stories, and connect & reconnect with so many great old and new warriors in that short time!
Mahalo NUI to all who organized, mahalo davianna.mcgregor & Hardy Spoehr for the beautiful leis and hard work, mahalo to Karen Murray & Candace Fujikane for being amazing kupuna support for the , & mahalo to Luwella Leonardi for all the history lessons & crucial documents, especially for bringing that last picture of Kawaipuna Prejean (the original Kahoʻolawe instigator and my dear mentor ane Likoʻs very close friend & co-conspirator). This event was a lot for Liko and many others who actually lived through the enormity of the original battle and the many that came from it, and lost so many dear people in the process. It was a beautiful reunion filled with joy and dedication - mahalo nui loa!!

Such a beautiful gathering to close & , bless all who were harmed by this , and open the next chapter of over the next two years, to stop it from ever coming back!!
It was amazing to have representatives of the , ( ), ( ), & more contribute **e, , & ! Unko Liko Liko Martin shared the & moʻolelo of “Mele o Kahoʻolawe,” written by Uncle Harry Mitchell, one of Likoʻs mentors, at Piʻilani Heiau after his son Kimo was lost at sea with George Helm, who was a friend and collaborator of Likoʻs also. It needs to be remembered that their deaths were amongst other things a direct result of RIMPAC bombing, which in those days was every year mostly on and so heavy that it prompted a whole movement to stop it. Which was successful BUT most of that bombing just moved to and , where it has actually INCREASED.
It may be a LONG movement to end this COMPLETELY, but when we do, the power of doing so will bring to the whole !
We also have SO much gratitude & aloha for our dear tita Moani & her ʻohana, who were simultaneously holding p**e at a different part of with beautiful & !!
Mahalo Nui also to EVERYONE who holds this p**e, mele & action every day!
Together we shall achieve da big that will save our beautiful from the crazy forces of capitalism & everything else that destroys her, and awaken a new time of cooperation, healing & making pono!

What an amazing day! This was just the Honolulu portion of the action (hard to believe we pulled off a ceremony after this!).
We started at the palace, did a procession with our letter to the Queens statue where we offered hoʻokupu and did a press conference (KITV4 Island News Hawai‘i Public Radio & some indymedia came), and then we went to Governor Josh Green, M.D.’s office (see livestream) & dropped off letters with him and also other candidates in the building. Then we went to the offices of Ed Case and Jill Tokuda, and also stopped in at the Pacific Forum, which has been a / think tank and which we would like to see redirected. Then we marched (howʻs our rolling sound system? Aka Unko Liko playing live in wheelchair!) to the US Federal Building, where we delivered letters to the offices of Brian Schatz and Mazie Hirono. We also did s driveby pū at Oceanit, a major defense contractor who is key in . Had to decorate cars quick at the Palace to make it to Puʻuloa for the ceremony! Which will be the next post!
