Lokahi Lactation LLC has evolved into Island Birthing and Breastfeeding LLC, now offering birth and postpartum doula support, private childbirth education, and prenatal retreats on The Big Island. Proudly still facilitating monthly in person group childbirth classes and free breastfeeding support meetings with the next one scheduled for August 2nd. I love that ABM is acknowledging that overfeeding of infants with supplementation occurs more than under feeding. Both pose risks and both should be avoided through infant feeding support and education but it’s high time over feeding shares the spotlight. The long term risks of overfeeding and its detrimental effects on breastfeeding families are so prevalent in our society and too often overlooked in my opinion.

NEW POSITION STATEMENT: "Recommendation for Exclusive Breastfeeding: Avoidance of Underfeeding and Overfeeding with Commercial Milk Formula" was just published in the Breastfeeding Medicine Journal advocating for exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life.
