Following our Monday closure to assess facilities and address impacts from Hurricane Lala, all YMCA of Honolulu branch locations and programs, with the exception of A+ Afterschool Programs at school sites that are closed by the HIDOE, will reopen as normally scheduled tomorrow, Tuesday, August 18.
This includes:
- All YMCA branches and facilities
- All YMCA programs and activities, including Swim Lessons
- Y Teen Club
Note: Bus transportation will not be available from closed DOE schools
- Pali-Nuʻuanu YMCA Preschool
- Leeward YMCA Preschool
- Kailua YMCA Preschool
- Other regularly scheduled YMCA programs and activities
Central YMCA short-term accommodations remained open throughout the storm and will continue normal operations.
Intermittent Power Outages
As Hawaiian Electric continues power restoration efforts across Oʻahu, temporary or intermittent power outages may still occur. If a YMCA location loses power, that location will need to temporarily close until power is restored.

A+ Afterschool Programs — Pending HIDOE Announcement
Reopening of YMCA A+ Afterschool Programs is dependent on Hawaiʻi State Department of Education school operations.
At this time, HIDOE is continuing to work with county and state partners and will provide updates regarding Tuesday's school operations as more information becomes available.
Please continue to check the HIDOE website. If your child’s school is closed tomorrow, YMCA A+ Afterschool Program will not operate at that site. If your child’s school is open tomorrow, YMCA A+ Afterschool Program will be in operation.
Please continue to check ymcahonolulu.org for the latest information.
