Between the rainy days, we’ve still managed to get out and survey our restoration sites. We’ve seen impacts including larger colonies of Pocillopora grandis, some overturned Porites colonies, and smaller Pocillopora finger corals that have broken off. All of this damage has been documented and reported through the Makai Watch reporting tool on the Eyes of the Reef website. If you notice any damaged or unhealthy corals, head to the link in our bio to submit a report.

February recap 🌊

Last month was full in the best way. From all our Tuesday keiki development days, to multiple one-day sea turtle conservation programs, we’ve been keeping busy out in the water and with our community. We also got to slow it down a bit for some team bonding! Spending time learning together as a part of our cultural integration pillar, by doing an unforgettable cultural access day at Makua Valley! We have also have partnered with 808 cleanups to survey Kaloko inlet for fish diversity and vertebrate abundance!

We are grateful for all the moments, the people, and the purpose behind it all. Can’t wait to see what the next month brings!

Have you guys seen our new “Corals of Hawaiʻi” T-shirts? These are actually some of the many coral species we survey while monitoring reef health and the ones we help restore through our work at the Ocean Alliance Project!

From field surveys to coral restoration dives, these species are some of the many important corals we have here in Hawaiʻi’s coral reef system. Being able to track their health and protect them is a huge part of what we do.

If you’d like to show support, every purchase helps fund our reef surveys, coral restoration work, and community education programs here in Hawaiʻi.💙🌊

Outplanting RECAP!🪸

We finally got back in the water to start planting some of the fragmented corals that have officially grown onto their plugs from the Hana Pūkoʻan event! Such a full circle moment!

There are still many more to plant, and next up is long-term monitoring, tracking growth, survival, and overall reef health over time. This is just the beginning 💙

Please note that it is illegal to touch and handle live coral without a special activity permit. All coral depicted in this photo is permitted under DAR SAP2026-34
