Honoring our heroes, one lei at a time. 🇺🇸🌺 This Memorial Day, after the annual hike from the temple, our Scouts paid tribute by placing leis on veterans’ graves as a Good Turn to remember their sacrifice. Each flower was hand-picked, and the lei was strung by scouts and parents.

It's that time of the year again. Honpa Hongwanji Scout Troop 49 is making kadomatsu this holiday season. Please support our troop in our upcoming camps and events by ordering a kadomatsu (or more) for your friends, family, and home. Pre-orders will be from November 1, 2024, to November 30, 2024. Pickup will be at Honpa Hongwanji Betsuin on December 22, 2024, from 9 am - 12 pm. Scan the QR code to place your order or visit our troop website at https://troop49honolulu.myshopify.com/. There will be limited supply on the day of pickup so pre-order now to secure your kadomatsu.

Summer Event #3: Japan High Adventure
Some of our older scouts had the amazing opportunity to visit cities in Japan. On a week-and-a-half-long trip, the scouts and parents visited the cities of Tokyo, Yokohama, Asakusa, Osaka, Kyoto, and Nara. Their schedules were filled with many activities, making for jam-packed days of food, fun, and shopping. The biggest accomplishment of scouts and families was taking on Mt. Fuji. Although not all of them made it up the mountain, they enjoyed the beautiful sunset before beginning their journey back down.

Summer Event #2: Pupukea Camp
Towards the end of the summer, our scouts and other troops from around the island spent a week at Pupukea campgrounds on the North Shore. The scouts had an opportunity to earn merit badges that go towards their ranks, practice some cooking skills, and explore nature through hikes. It wasn't all business as scouts and leaders had plenty of free time to spend with one another and with those from other troops. Competitive games of gaga ball and board games filled the free time while nights consisted of sitting around the bonfire.

Summer Event 1: Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin Annual Bon Dance
Our scouts work hard over two weeks to help and prepare for the annual bon dance. From setting up and prepping food to cooking and selling food, scouts, and families came together to help organize this fun event. They even learned a dance and performed with the crowd for everyone to see.
