To all the police dads across Hawaiʻi, mahalo. Father’s Day is a time to honor the fathers, father figures, and mentors whose strength, patience, and love shape our families and our communities. To the dads who miss holidays, school events, and family time to answer the call to serve, and to the families who stand behind them, we see you and we’re grateful for you today and every day.

Happy Father’s Day from the State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officers

Every day brings something different in this job,
but one thing stays the same: we show up for our community and for each other.
Here’s to the officers, dispatchers, and civilian staff holding the line today.
Stay safe, watch your six, and take care of your each other.

Some stereotypes are just unfair… others come with sprinkles. On National Donut Day, we’re not saying officers need donuts to do the job, but we’re not turning them down either.

Honoring three Hawai'i fallen heroes whose End of Watch came in the month of June.

Officer David N. Ronk was shot and killed on June 15, 1987, while serving a temporary protective order, giving his life to protect a victim seeking safety. He was 44 years old and was survived by his wife.

Officer David R. Huber was struck and killed by a vehicle on June 20, 1979, while directing traffic at a church on Kalanianaʻole Highway. He was 52 and was survived by his wife, son, three daughters, and two brothers.

Officer Patrick K. Ihu succumbed to injuries from a motorcycle crash on June 1, 1964, after responding to a fire alarm call that turned out to be false. He had served four years with HPD.

This June, we remember Officer Ronk, Officer Huber, and Officer Ihu, and we honor their sacrifice, their families, and the legacy they left in our community.

What keeps officers going isn’t headlines, it’s the quick waves, “thank yous,” and kind words from the people they serve. To every neighbor, family, and local business that backs your officers in big and small ways, your support matters more than you know.

On Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women of our armed forces who gave their lives in service to our country and the freedoms we enjoy. As our officers stand watch in communities across Hawaiʻi, we remember that every flag, every moment of silence, and every act of service is a promise to never forget their sacrifice.

Some of the most important work happens far from the spotlight, in everyday conversations between officers and the communities they serve. On days like today, we’re reminded that trust is built in small moments, when officers listen, show up at neighborhood events, and work side by side with residents to keep our local streets safe.

Community safety is a lot like baking, it turns out best when everyone brings something to the table. This World Baking Day, we mahalo the families, neighbors, and local bakeries who partner with our officers, share concerns, and help us build stronger, safer neighborhoods across Hawaiʻi. From coffee‑and‑pastry meetings with residents to informal talks at the counter, those everyday conversations are the “secret ingredients” that make community policing work.
