Pili Nā Moku is a multi-island climate resilience initiative that brings together community-based organizations, Native Hawaiian practitioners, government agencies, and academic partners.

🎓🌊 Congratulations to our 2026 Peter J. Rappa Resilient and Sustainable Coasts Fellows!

Today, we celebrated Marley Kong-Mercado, Ila Nako, Shaelaree Pelekane-Manosa, and Haya Stein as they shared their final presentations on O'ahu and Moloka'i. All of their projects centered on a different aspect of Pili Nā Moku.

Join us to learn about the Pili Nā Moku Community Funding Opportunity and
connect with others in the moku. This session is also a space to build pilina,
celebrate the successes already happening in our community, and identify
needs and priorities that community members want to lift up. Our focus will be
on ʻāina‑based, network building, knowledge exchange, capacity building, and community governance efforts.

Mentors and interns representing Pili Nā Moku, Mālama Learning Center, and Ka'ala Farm crushed it 💪 at the Hawai'i Conservation Conference! In their panel presentation, "Building youth leadership through education, ‘āina restoration, wildfire risk reduction, and community engagement," they shared mana'o and personal reflections on their fire mitigation work and how it has impacted them for the better. Congrats on representating your organizations and community well ⚒️!

🙌🏽We’ve got big news!

Are you a nonprofit or community-rooted organization with experience supporting funding for 'āina work?

📣Announcing a funding initiative supporting community-led projects that care for ‘āina, strengthen cultural stewardship, and build resilient communities in the moku or hui moku of Kona Kaua‘i; Wai‘anae, O‘ahu; Moloka‘i; Central Maui; and Kohala, Hawai‘i Island. Up to $1.4 million is available within each of these moku/hui moku.

We are seeking projects that:

➡️Builds on established relationships of trust within the moku.
➡️Invests in long-term community capacity.
➡️Embraces multi-generational knowledge.

🌈Something special has been happening in for over 20 years. Ranchers, private landowners, and State and County entities have been united under a common task – protecting Kohala’s forest. This group of ʻāina custodians call themselves The Kohala Watershed Partnership, and they understand that protecting the forests means protecting Kohala’s only source of water.

This water is carried into Kohala by the wind and collected by fog drip and rain, which recharge streams and aquifers. Without the , there would be no mechanism to create in Kohala.

Pili Nā Moku is proud to assist in the continued expansion of protection for the Kohala forest in the area called Puʻu Ahia.

Ka'ala Farm sends their warm aloha and bid a hui hou to three of their Pili Nā Moku interns. For the past 9 months, they have been working hard on various projects and greenbreaks in the back of Wai'anae Valley Kai. You will be missed Jayven, Melina and Paris!

Eric Enos of Kaʻala Farm (Waiʻanae moku) traveled to Kauaʻi for the Hawaiʻi Wildfire Summit, joining a panel of Hawaiʻi Urban Interface (HUI) grant recipients from across the islands.

Meet Nicole Makaʻāhinaʻālohilohi Jack (Maka), the artist and creator behind the Pili Nā Moku logo. 😎 🤎

Maka is a Native Hawaiian multimedia artist based in Kapahulu, Oʻahu, whose work reflects a deep connection to ʻike kupuna, culture, and the natural world. From large-scale murals across Hawaiʻi to carving with natural materials and commissioned graphic design work, her artistry carries both ʻike and intention.

Drawing inspiration from her background in Pacific Islands Studies focused on Arts and Culture, as well as her work in environmental conservation, Maka’s creative vision honors the indigenous genius of her ancestors while bringing contemporary Native Hawaiian storytelling to life.

🌺 Mahalo nui to Maka for sharing her talent, creativity, and manaʻo through the Pili Nā Moku logo. We are honored to carry forward a design rooted in culture, connection, and aloha. 🤙🏽
