This seminar will feature the Fall 2026 preview, highlighting events, research, community partnerships, and activities led by the CERENE Lab. We’ll also look ahead to Fall 2026 and share what’s next for our work in sustainability, community resilience, and applied research.

Our first CERENE Sustainability Seminar is ---- a timely one: Hurricane Preparedness and the Top Ten Essentials.

If you still don’t feel fully ready when these storms hit, please join us. I’ll be sharing simple, practical basics from my work with Resilience Hubs, along with a few lessons I’ve learned from working in the Marshall Islands on navigating power outages and community preparedness. We’ll also leave space for talk-story and trusted tips from others in our broader community of practice — because we have a lot of wisdom in this community.

We’ll cover the difference between sheltering in place and when it’s time to go, how to prepare a Go Bag versus a 2-week shelter-in-place kit, and how to make sure everyone is signed up for HNL Alerts. We’ll also share a few simple resources and do our best to answer questions.

This month, we welcomed a new cohort of CERENE Resilience Corps Leaders and launched the X-Gen program, which connects UH students and kūpuna through intergenerational mentoring, stories of resilience, disaster preparedness, and community action.

We also share highlights from our recent Kapiʻolani Community College delegation to Guam, where we exchanged ideas about student mentoring pathways, marine science, conservation, circular economies, and island resilience with colleagues from Guam Community College, the University of Guam, Guam Green Growth, and Guam NSF EPSCoR.

The newsletter also includes CERENE and Oʻahu Hub Learning Community updates, along with practical resources to help individuals and families prepare for storms, power outages, and other emergencies.
