🏡🚆 A YIMBY Field Trip: Visualizing Home

What could more homes near transit look like in Hawaiʻi?

Join us for a field trip exploring transit-oriented development near the rail line, where we’ll see a variety of home types in person and talk about how building homes near transit can help create more housing opportunities for local residents.

This is a chance to visualize what more homes could look like in our communities and maybe even imagine how similar homes could fit into your own neighborhood.

Today the Hawaiʻi Legislature voted on two bills that could lower housing costs by reducing unnecessary parking mandates.

HB 1919 – Relating to Development Standards
❌ FAILED its 3rd reading in the House (25–25).
Did your Representative vote for ?

SB 2981 – Relating to Land Use
🎉 PASSED its 3rd reading in the Senate and now crosses over to the House. Mahalo to the Senators who support prioritizing spaces for people over spaces for cars.

Mandatory parking requirements can add tens of thousands of dollars to the cost of building each home — even when those stalls go unused.

Reforming these mandates means lower housing costs or more space for homes.

Use the link in our profile to Tell your elected officials YOU support housing.

The session is only halfway over — and many housing bills are still alive.

HB1409 & SB1263 signed into law!

Earlier this week, Governor Josh Green signed Act 159 and Act 160.
Both bills have a focus on Transit-Oriented Development, increasing density near transit lines and a more streamlined historical review process for low risk areas.
