This month in review! 🗓️

HWC staff and volunteers joined the Kalihi Connection Coalition for WE are Kalihi - YOUth Matter, a family friendly community event celebrating young voices. At this event, HWC shared resources and joined in celebrating the different cultures and people that make up the community of Kalihi.

The leadership committee of the Filipino Farmers & Farm Worker Association of Waialua met for a Leadership Retreat, where they discussed the farmers’ upcoming campaign.

As the newest workers association HWC helped to build, the leadership retreat served to strengthen their organizing skills as they seek to expand membership and outreach to more farmers in Waialua.

The Hawaiʻi Workers Center joined our community partners in hosting the 3rd Annual Hawaiʻi Walk for Health. Rooted in advancing health equity in Hawaiʻi, the Walk encouraged joyful movement while raising funds for programs related to health, cultural education, and the rights of workers.

Over the weekend, members of the COFA Workers Alliance held a meeting to discuss their upcoming community health survey and outreach.

After collectively identifying a need to better understand health disparities in the COFA community, the Alliance is working on a survey to distribute to COFA workers. The survey will provide a better understanding of how social determinants, like access to a safe work environment and stable housing, impact the health of our communities.
