Animal Education Initiative of Hawaii

Animal Education Initiative of Hawaii AEIofHI strives to inspire compassion and empathy through our free presentations to Oahu classrooms. We were created by 6 year old Kaitlin M.

The Animal Education Initiative of Hawaii (AEIofHI) is dedicated to the teaching of responsible pet ownership to end the cycles that contribute to abuse, neglect, and abandonment. We believe that humane education is the key to a more compassionate world. Our goal is to inspire kids to be kind, compassionate, and responsible pet owners. Through interactive lessons, we demonstrate how pets have feel

ings and needs just like people do to help them understand why we should treat all living creatures with respect and kindness. after the death of her puppy that was purchased from a pet shop, which later turned out to have been supplied by a puppy mill. She contracted the parvo virus from the abhorrent living conditions in the puppy mill and fell ill only days after getting her. She was treated at the vet but ultimately succumbed to her illness within a week. Devastated, Kaitlin learned all she could about puppy mills and that eventually led her to fostering and volunteering with local rescues. Upon seeing the numerous dogs in need for various reasons, she took it upon herself to build a program geared toward teaching kids just like her how to properly take care of their pet to prevent them from ever needing to be rescued. Her program was picked up by a local dog rescue where she continued teaching for 7 years, during which time she won an award, appeared on the news multiple times, and was featured in nationally distributed humane education magazines for her work on the program. Kaitlin, now 13, decided to form her own non-profit organization so she can focus all of her efforts on preventing animal abuse, neglect, and abandonment to spare animals from pain, suffering, or entering the shelter system.

There are so many benefits of the amazing bond we have with our pets. To celebrate that and highlight the impact it makes on our mental health, we asked people to share a time when an animal made a positive difference in their lives. Here are some of the many heartwarming responses we received! Thank you all for sharing, we look forward to seeing you again soon. 🩵

We are excited to be a part of Paws for Prevention, hosted by the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention! This special event highlights the powerful bond between humans and animals and how our furry friends can bring comfort, healing, and hope.

At our booth, we’ll be sharing how the human-animal bond plays a crucial role in emotional well-being, from reducing stress and anxiety to offering companionship and unconditional love. Whether you're a pet owner, an animal lover, or simply looking to learn more, we invite you to stop by, say hello, and connect with us!

Career Day at Aliamanu Elementary!

We had an amazing time inspiring the next generation of leaders! The students learned how Kaitlin started her humane education program when she was just six years old and that even though AEIofHI is not her actual career, founding this organization has taught her lessons that continue to shape her journey toward her chosen profession in the medical field.

They met Boba and we read Love Me Gently by our friends at , demonstrating a new perspective on animal behavior. Many students had eye opening moments, realizing how their actions impact animals and how they can make kinder, more compassionate choices.

Kaitlin couldn’t join us this time, (exams on the last day before spring break) but she hopes her story will inspire others to follow their passions, create change, and make the world a better place for both people and animals.

All of the 3rd graders at Aliamanu Elementary School missed you and would like to wish you good luck on your test today, .808!!

This little duckling faced a rough start. He was the last of ten siblings to survive in a busy shopping center pond. Thanks to the kindness of strangers who stopped to help, mall security and maintenance, and our incredible new friend Raedean who didn’t hesitate to jump right in, we were able to get him to safety!

He’s now with a foster family and a new duckling friend, thanks to the support of Susie’s Duck Sanctuary. We’re so grateful for everyone who played a part in giving him a second chance. 🩵

Susies Duck sanctuary is home to many, many ducks, including some with disabilities who need constant care and even wheelchairs for mobility. If you’d like to make a difference, they are looking for volunteers to help care for these special ducks. Reach out to join us in giving them the care and support they deserve.

We are so grateful to pawsome dog mama Lily for generously donating her commission funds from sales in memory of Nala.

Nala, who battled diabetes and other health issues, was more than just a pet. She was family, receiving the best medical care and lots of love. 🩵

Nala's journey illustrates that strong bond we all should share with our pets. Her mom's dedication and compassion exemplify everything AEIofHi stands for, kindness, responsibility, and endless love.

Pawhalo Lily, for inspiring us all to be better pet parents and for helping us continue our mission. Nala’s legacy lives on through your generosity and love. 🌈

Can you imagine going to the beach, and only seeing trash? According to a survey we conducted, 60% of people found plastic nearly every time they went to the beach. Microplastics and food wrappers were the most common!

We love taking Boba to the beach, but if we don’t do our part to stop plastic pollution, that might not be possible. Help spread awareness to ensure a clean future!

Every day, countless pieces of trash end up in the ocean. Plastic, which gathers on the surface in layers, blocks sunlight from reaching down. Plankton, unable to photosynthesize, cannot produce oxygen. Dead zones, or places in the ocean with reduced oxygen levels, are extremely dangerous. Aquatic Hypoxia eventually kills everything that cannot swim or move away. If more dead zones emerge, mass amounts of species will die.

Tons of plastic end up in the ocean every day. At this rate, by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish.

Plastic can affect the ocean in many ways. Animals can mistake it for food, it can increase the risk of infection in coral reefs, and it causes pain and suffering when sea creatures get tangled in the plastic.

You can help by picking up any trash you see, along with spreading awareness and using reusable water bottles.

How do you do your part? Post it below and share pics of how you help our environment to show your support!
