Is it right to put our children in non-climate controlled, humid, crowded classrooms in a year-round hot state where the education quality is known to be subpar on a national level? Now let's add face masks and restrict student interactions and parent volunteering or classroom observation.
We said "No, Thank you."
After the first week of the FY2021-2022 school year at a Hawaiian Public Elementary school, it occurred to us that communication and interaction with the teacher, our child, or other parents, was going to be at a minimum.
We asked our child some specific questions about the daily routine and how they liked the school. The answers to some questions concerned us and then we realized - with the reduced ability for parents to walk younger children to class, observe lessons, or volunteer in class, we are somewhat left in the dark as to what our children are experiencing.
So, we decided to pull our child from public school and instead, homeschool them. We wanted to create an active community of other families who have made the same decision, or may be considering it.
Everyone can speak freely here. If you cannot communicate your point without the use of profanity, then you may not be a good fit for the group. People, contrary to many examples of the opposite, can still disagree without resulting to insults and profanity.
