We would like to recognize and celebrate our longtime staff member at Hale O Honolulu Clubhouse, Linda Wakatake, for her 21 years of dedication and service to our clubhouse! It was bittersweet to see Linda leave HOH, but we are so happy for her as she begins an exciting new chapter as the Director of Ko'olau Clubhouse. With 22 years of service with the Department of Health, Linda has made a lasting impact through her commitment, knowledge, and passion for what she does.

Linda also brought her background in the culinary field into our clubhouse kitchen, sharing countless wonderful recipes, cooking techniques, and styles with our team. We were truly fortunate to learn from her and carry on the many skills and recipes she shared with us. Her influence will continue to be felt in our kitchen and throughout the HOH ʻohana.

Linda, mahalo nui loa for your many years of dedication, the knowledge you've shared, and the memories we've made together. While we will miss having you here at HOH, we are excited to see you at Ko'olau This is not goodbye, it's a hui hou (until we meet again)! Congratulations, Linda! Wishing you all the best in this exciting new journey! 🎉

Employment & Education (E&E) Spotlights: Archiving the inspiring moments where special E&E members took the floor to share stories, insights, and lessons from their past employment.
• 🍽️ Delicious Meals: Documenting the great food and culinary highlights that kept everyone energized and brought the community together. We had a guest speaker from Longs to provide insight of job opportunities. Good bye summer and hello fall y'all.

August was filled with memorable events, laughter, and opportunities to connect at Hale O Honolulu Clubhouse!

We were delighted to celebrate our guest speaker, Taryn, during our E & E (Employment & Education) Day. We also took time to celebrate our August birthdays, making sure our birthday members felt special and appreciated.

This month, we welcomed our friends from Waipahu Clubhouse while their clubhouse was temporarily closed due to construction challenges.

The Funshine Gang also enjoyed an outing to the famous Matsumoto Shave Ice, where everyone got to cool down with a delicious local favorite.

Back at the clubhouse, Tina and Maria hosted an in-house social recreation activity featuring a fun and creative rock-painting craft day. Members had a great time getting creative and sharing their colorful artwork, enjoying a delicious crab boil made by Maria.

Honoring and Remembering Our Community

On July 24, 2026, Hale O Honolulu Clubhouse participated in the 26th Annual Remembrance Service, hosted by Hawaii State Hospital at Hawaii Memorial Park Cemetery.

As a meaningful expression of respect and remembrance, Hale O Honolulu Clubhouse members sang an original song written by staff member Mike Kanayama for everyone gathered at the service.

It was a heartfelt opportunity for our members and staff to come together, honor those who have passed, and show our support and respect for the community.

We remember, we honor, and we stand together.

Working Together to Keep Our Clubhouse Beautiful

We take pride in working together to keep our clubhouse clean, welcoming, and beautiful. Today, as part of our special Work Order Day project, members and staff worked side by side to give our kitchen floor an extra cleaning.

It was a great opportunity for everyone to pitch in, make an extra effort, and help create a clean and inviting environment for our clubhouse community.

This aligns with the clubhouse model's focus on helping adults in mental wellness recovery transition back to school or work. This also helps with goal support and community building. The group at Hale O Honolulu had discussions to foster peer connection. Our speaker requested fish with stir fry, and the staff provided. , ,
