This Indigenous People's Day, we're featuring Mely, a 23 year-old Maya Kaqchikel woman who hopes to empower her community through cooking nutritious, locally-sourced dishes.

Mely is receiving a scholarship from to attend a 1 year cooking program. To pay it forward, she will share her knowledge with her community by leading 6 workshops on nutrition and cooking with local ingredients at .

Support Mely by donating to . Donations will fund her enrollment fees, cooking ingredients, as well as meals, public transport, and accommodation while attending classes. Since she lives in a rural community, she commutes to the nearest city to attend school.

So stimulating to work as a part of this international team! A slew of different ethnicities represented yesterday tuning in from all over the continent (Guatemala, Ecuador, Panama and Colombia).

We often talk about the negative aspects of globalization (colonization, gentrification, exploitation…) but there are also so many benefits too. Never before have we ever been able to meet LIVE interculturally, intergenerationally only across so many different geographies to come together and work on community and nature based solutions together.

We at CIELO are committed to continued to do support in their vision of attaining food sovereignty! So grateful to have .earth support with us as part of this journey too.

Today is a very special day to launch this project — today is 6 K’AT in the Maya day count, representing the spider web and community. The card for K’AT describes this project perfectly: “We are networks. We coexist in an exchange of energy, strength and reciprocity”.

We created the cards to share energy from the Maya culture with you, in exchange for energy to help fund community initiatives in Guatemala. The project was created by a web of talented artists and creators.

We hope this project resonates with you, and that you share it with your own networks to create an even greater community learning, sharing, and creating new possibilities together.
