Wayne Conservation District

Wayne Conservation District It is the mission of the WCD to assist the public in conserving Wayne County's natural resources through technical assistance and education.

In 1945, Pennsylvania state legislators recognized the need to support grass-roots conservation efforts. As a result, the Conservation District Law was passed, and county conservation districts were created. Today there is a conservation district established in every Pennsylvania county except Philadelphia. Conservation districts implement a variety of programs, and provide assistance for a range

of issues unique to their county, such as:

Agricultural Land Preservation
Chesapeake Bay Program
Dirt & Gravel Roads Program
Environmental Education
Erosion & Sedimentation Pollution Control
Floodplain Management
Forest Management
Nutrient Management Program
Stormwater Management
Waterway Protection
West Nile Virus Surveillance Program
Wildlife Management
Each Conservation District is led by a Board of Directors made up of local people from all walks of life. These volunteers study county natural resource issues and make decisions which enhance and protect the local community.

Attendees learned about how multispectral imaging with drones is used to look at plant health, soil testing, soil biology, and about some common pasture plants. 🌱🔬🪏

A big thank you to Drone Deployment Services, LLC, Stroud Water Research Center, and Penn State Extension Wayne County for making this day such a successful learning experience for all!

Funding for this project was provided by a mini-grant from the PA Department of Environmental Protection.
