Because this is the first big snow that we have had in several years, there has been much confusion about where the trails go. People have been making trails in the wrong places and trying to use trails on properties where we are no longer allowed. This has created a lot of extra work for the few people that work hard to keep the ACE Snowmobile Club trails open. Once a track has been made in the wrong place, it is difficult to stop people from following it.
If someone has obtained permission from a land owner to make a trail on that property, the club would really like to know that. Otherwise, if you are going to be the first person on a trail after the snow comes, it would be wise to become involved with the club to make sure that you are putting that trail in the right place. A good way to stay informed is to come to the monthly meetings which are held the second Wednesday of the month from September to April at 7:30 pm. If you are unable to attend the meetings, you may touch base with the club president, Clinton LaTourette, at 570-729-7865. We have a very limited workforce that is trying their best to keep these trails maintained for everyone’s enjoyment.
We realize not everyone is able to help with trail work, but there is a lot more to it than trail work. Maintaining relationships with our land owners is our biggest task. Often times it’s a matter of having the right person that knows the land owner that can make all the difference. Keeping our trails open is the responsibility of every person using the trails. Even if you’re not able to help with the actual work, the least you can do is make an effort not to create more work for the few who are doing the work.
Because of the way Pennsylvania law works, it is important for everyone using these trails to belong to the club for insurance purposes. If you would like to become a member, you may go to our website and enroll on line: acesnowmobileclub.com. Or you can go to Rusty Palmer's and get a membership from Kayla Smith.
