Though Transition is inherently local, it is at the same time an interconnected international movement. Over the last ten years Transition has spread organically around the world, to places like São Paulo, Brazil; Hamamatsu, Japan; Zaghreb, Croatia; and Greytown, South Africa!

You Know You're in Transition When...

You know your neighbors.
You know what “400 ppm” means.
You believe everything can be recycled.
You have an unusual appreciation for chickens.
You know which foods are in season.
You think work parties are fun.
You are aware that our global bee populations, fish stocks, and climate stability are all in serious danger and are all related.
You're passionate about composting, clotheslines, or graywater (...probably all three).
Your favorite mode of entertainment is a re-skilling fair.
You dream of local-scale solar power stations, community currencies, public gardens or tool-sharing libraries.
You know that the ‘radical’ notion of a post-growth economy is simply common sense.
You see that happiness is not about how much “stuff” you have, but about meaningful connections to your community and to nature.
But most of all… You know what a better world looks like, and are grateful to play a part in bringing it to life.

Thanks to Narrowsburg Jill for this information!

Hi all – There is a company in Scranton, Anthracite Auto that compresses Styrofoam and sells to end-user. They don’t list recycling Styrofoam on their site, I found then researching Styrofoam recycling, and have spoken with them as well.
Having gathered a couple bags full of large packing pieces, I was on a quest! So… know there’s a place to take it to have it recycled! Maybe at some point we can coordinate trips of those heading for Scranton! Onward! Jill

Thanks to all who keep "liking" Transition Honesdale on Facebook. We are curious to know if some of our "likers" would be interested to meet each other sometime this summer 2015 for conversation about how to advance our TRANSITION to a more resilient future for our local communities. If you would attend a get-together, call 570.253.5711, and we'll see what we can set up

Transition Honesdale is taking a bit of a hiatus from our newsletter and our usual winter film series because we are all busy working on independent projects and projects with other organizations to build resilience in our community. Our Transition Community Garden at Ellen Memorial will again be in full operation this spring, and in fact we'll need a few new gardeners for the 2015 growing season. (Call 570.253.5711, if you're interested in gardening with us.) There are also plenty of opportunities in all of our local communities for you to get involved; we encourage you to participate.

From Transitions USA: In these times, it’s common to get overwhelmed by the crises facing our planet – from the destruction of forests, to the toxic chemicals in our products, to the bloodshed over natural resources. We need to find inspiration and partnership – and see that our contributions are making a difference.
