**City Presents Donation to Hominy Christ’s Cupboard**

On Wednesday, December 1st, the City of Hominy presented the Hominy Ministerial Alliance with a check for $10,000 to help Christ’s Cupboard food bank.

This money is a part of a grant the City of Hominy received from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The ARPA grant emphasizes the use of funds for services that work to combat food insecurity in the Community.

This grant will allow Christ’s Cupboard to provide holiday food baskets to recipients and restock the pantry food supplies. A portion will also be used to facilitate the move to the organization’s new facility.

“Due to the Covid pandemic we were forced to close the doors to the Cupboard for a period of time, only assisting people on a “call for help” basis, said Janeen Stuart, Ministerial Alliance Secretary/Treasurer. “During that time, we lost a great deal of staples due to water leak.”

Because of the unsuitability of their current location, Christ’s Cupboard will soon begin the task of moving to its new location off Main Street at 106 S. Wood (next to the Marland Station).

“This donation, a huge blessing that our Hominy City Council has given the Alliance, will enable the move to take place and restock the Cupboard, and will ensure that the Hominy Christ Cupboard will once again open our doors each week to help our citizens,” Mrs. Stuart continued. “The members of Hominy Ministerial Alliance appreciate it so much. Thanks once again to the City administration and Council of our City for helping us help others.”

The Hominy Christ Cupboard is sponsored by the Hominy Ministerial Alliance. The Alliance is comprised of the local churches and joins together to assist the members of our community in numerous ways. The Cupboard was established to provide food items on a 3-day emergency basis to Hominy residents and has continued to do so for many years, due to donations from local churches, organizations, businesses, and the Hominy School System and Postal Service annual food drives.
