🌳🍂 10 Years of Partnership, Nature & Community! 🍂🌳

As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of Walk Walton, we want to give a special THANK YOU to our wonderful partners at Homewood Izaak Walton Preserve!

For an entire decade, Izaak Walton Preserve has welcomed Homewood Science Center and hundreds of families to experience the beauty and wonder of nature. Together, we've created lasting memories, sparked curiosity about the natural world, and inspired children and families to explore, discover, and appreciate the environment right in our own backyard.

We are incredibly grateful for this partnership and for the dedicated volunteers who help make Walk Walton such a special community tradition year after year.

Here's to 10 years of collaboration—and many more adventures in nature together! 💚

🍁 Join us Sunday, October 18, from 10 AM–1 PM as we celebrate a decade of Walk Walton!

As your flowers die and the leaves fall, you may be tempted to get out those yard waste bags and tools and clean up the debris littering your yard.

BUT WAIT! 🍁🐝🐸🐦🐜🐛🐞🍂

So many native species rely on that debris to overwinter and ensure their population survives another season. From bugs to birds, and the amphibians and mammals in between - your "clean up" may be doing detrimental damage to our local biodiversity.

Read more about ecologically responsible ways to give your yard a fall refresh - and maybe change your thinking about how "clean" you really want your yard to be.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Curiosity is contagious — especially when it starts with you.

When guardians get hands-on right alongside their kids, something powerful happens: children learn that asking questions, testing ideas, and even getting it "wrong" are all part of discovery. Modeling that curiosity doesn't just teach STEM skills — it teaches kids how to learn, and shows them that their family is a safe place to explore.

That's what Family Fridays and STEM Saturdays at Homewood Science Center are all about. Every weekend, families dive into hands-on experiments, building challenges, and interactive exhibits — together. No sitting on the sidelines. 🧪🔧

Because the best science lesson isn't just watching your kid figure something out — it's figuring it out with them.
