BridgeWays Alabama

BridgeWays Alabama Where young people learn to care, connect, and contribute. WHERE YOUNG PEOPLE LEARN TO CARE, CONNECT AND CONTRIBUTE.

BridgeWays teaches young people in grades 5K – 12 the interpersonal and soft skills now known as Social Emotional Intelligence: Specifically, the core values of kindness, caring, and respect for every individual’s intrinsic value as a human being — including themselves. We also offer career mentoring and experiential learning, opening young eyes to the possibilities life offers — as well as achiev

able paths to success. At the same time, BridgeWays supports educators and parents at their individual points of need — which often includes helping them identify those needs, then tailoring programs to meet them. In short, we listen, we hear, and we accommodate. By instilling a genuine sense of hope, purpose and self-worth, BridgeWays connects young people to their peers, their schools and their families — and ultimately, to their potential as responsible, contributing citizens of their communities.

Now that school is back in session, we really miss our summer campers! 😭 But we are so happy that our Camp Fletcher team gets to support their growing minds over the summer through the SAIL (Summer Adventures in Learning) Program!

💚 This year, BridgeWays received a grant from the SAIL (Summer Adventures in Learning) program comprised of donations from United Way of Central Alabama, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama: The Caring Foundation, Mike & Gillian Goodrich Foundation, and the Independent Presbyterian Church Foundation.

💚 This grant allowed us to provide for a trained educational instructor, purchase new electronic tablets for pre and post-testing, curriculum and instructional materials, and snacks for the kids. Through the SAIL Program, campers exercised their skills in reading, comprehension, vocabulary, counting, multiplication/division, and measurements through engaging outdoor activities like plant and animal identification, distance races, group storytime, and more!

THANK YOU to and all of our program partners for providing us with the opportunity to prepare our campers for this school year! 📚🫶

Camp Fletcher had a wonderful visit from our friends at United Way of Central Alabama today! 🏕️💚

They got to learn more about BridgeWays’ in-school programs, watch our documentary, “Sailing, Not Drifting: The Story of Camp Fletcher”, and experience the Pauline Bray Fletcher Historical Trail!

United Way has supported Camp Fletcher since 1927, when Mrs. Fletcher herself made an appeal to them for assistance. We are eternally grateful that they trusted BridgeWays to take over as guardians of this historic camp, and we are even more honored to serve our community as a United Way partner agency.

A very special thank you to Emily Finley for organizing this visit! We always enjoy connecting with our friends at UWCA, and we can’t wait to see them again! 💜

We'd like to extend a huge thank you to The Dollar General Literacy Foundation for our 2026 summer reading grant! 💚This grant allowed us to purchase new books, program supplies, and small incentive prizes to boost camper participation in our SAIL (Summer Adventures In Learning) Program at Camp Fletcher. We are so grateful to have the opportunity to keep kids learning during the summer while providing them with a great camp experience! 📚😄

💜The Dollar General Literacy Foundation supports organizations that increase access to educational programming, stimulate and enable innovation in the delivery of educational instruction and inspire a love of reading. Each year, DGLF awards funds to nonprofit organizations, schools, and libraries within a 15-mile radius of a Dollar General store or distribution center to support adult, family, summer and youth literacy programs. The Foundation also offers a student referral program for individuals interested in learning how to read, speak English, or prepare for the high school equivalency exam. Referrals to a local organization that provides free literacy services are available online or through referral cards found in the Learn to Read brochures that are available at the cash register of every Dollar General store.

⭐And don't forget to check out The Yellow Glasses Project, a nationwide campaign by Dollar General to bring awareness to literacy!
