Homewood 25/26 Pass Purchases Survey

Community,

As we enjoy the 25/26 winter season at Homewood, Keep Homewood Public wants to take a moment to listen to the people who care most about this mountain — our local community, passholders, visitors, and neighbors.

Link to survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/C9WWPG2

Keep Homewood Public is conducting a short community survey to better understand:
Which passes or tickets folks have purchased this season
What you see as the positives and concerns about Homewood Mountain Resort today
What questions or comments you’d like to share with Keep Homewood Public
Your responses will help us better represent community perspectives, inform ongoing conversations, and guide our advocacy efforts moving forward.

The survey is brief and should only take you 3-4 minutes. All responses will be reviewed thoughtfully.

Hey KHP Community, you may have heard that Homewood Mountain Resort is doing some tree removal work (started 9/3). With these trees being removed, our community will be safer and we are one step closer to gondola installation! Please read below for the official TRPA update on the same. Thanks Homewood & TRPA, and we look forward to the upcoming ski season!

From TRPA's Homewood updates page:

"September 10, 2025 Update

In response to a request from Homewood Mountain Resort (HMR), and consistent with feedback we’ve heard from Keep Homewood Public and the community about moving the gondola project forward, TRPA approved an amendment to the previously approved fire hazard reduction tree removal plan that now permits HMR to remove trees within the gondola alignment as well.

This action does not change the gondola permit approved on January 22, 2025, by the TRPA Governing Board. TRPA will continue to require that all the gondola permit conditions of approval (including filing of the recreational deed restriction) be satisfied before grading or gondola construction begins."

Hi KHP Folks! Just checking in, as things have been quieter these last couple months.

Some of our community received an email from Homewood today (see photo below) about signing an updated Release of Liability. Did you receive? Do you have any thoughts about the updated release?

Does anyone have a copy of the release of liability from previous years? We would like to compare these, if possible.

Has anyone received their season pass in the mail yet? We've heard of some requests for proof of residency, but haven't heard of any passes being received.

Have you heard of anything else interesting happening at the mountain that our community should be aware of?

Please let us know...curious to hear what folks are hearing in your circles. Thanks Community!

Community,
As you know, we ran a survey recently, with the goal of understanding visitation behavior at Homewood. Please find a summary of the results below.

The survey ran for two weeks, had 16 total questions, and we received 785 responses.

Interesting data points included:
- 60% of Homewood skiers / riders used a season pass the most recent year they visited
- 38% of skiers / riders went to Homewood 1-5 times the most recent year they visited, 33% 6-12 times, 25% 13-30 times, 5% 31+ times
- 62% of skiers / riders also visited another resort the most recent year they visited Homewood (with 76% of those folks visiting Palisades / Alpine). This compares to 73% of skiers / riders visiting another resort this year, during Homewood’s closure (with 72% of those folks visiting Palisades / Alpine and 52% of folks buying an Ikon Pass)
- 83% of skiers / riders stayed on the West Shore the most recent year they visited Homewood, compared to 70% this last year, during Homewood’s closure
- 44% of skiers / riders are definitely planning to purchase a Homewood pass this year, 34% are probably going to purchase one, 17% unlikely, 6% definitely not
- 26% of skiers / riders are full-time West Shore residents, 62% are second homeowners, and the balance are short term renters / day visitors / other

Representative quotes included:
- Almost every comment, when we asked whether the responder was planning to purchase a Homewood pass, was related to pricing / value / costs. Many commenters compared Homewood with Palisades: “Skiing Alpine and Palisades has been very informative for us, parking and lift lines are not nearly as troublesome as we expected, and the terrain and snow conditions are a lot better than Homewood.”
- Numerous folks shared how much people love Homewood, how important the resort is to the community, and their families: “My mom learned to ski there…I want my granddaughter to learn to ski there, too.”
- Responders voiced appreciation for Homewood staying public, but also cautioned that the work isn’t done: “Thank you KHP, really appreciate you all taking the lead. The fight is far from over though. Until the deal is done, eyes on the horizon.”
- Folks are very glad that the mountain is re-opening this coming season, but a dozen or so comments shared how Homewood needs to rebuild trust with the community: “Again with all the crap that the ownership group has tried recently it left a pretty bad taste in my mouth for Homewood. It is very sad to me with over 50 years family history going there and enjoying it…I still just [don’t] trust the ownership group and what they are trying to do.”
- Finally, Homewood’s choice to not include second homeowners as locals disappointed many commenters: “Disappointed at not being able to receive resident pricing even though we are west shore owners for 30+ years. Yes this is our second home but it’s still “home” for us.”

Thank you to everyone who completed and/or shared the survey. We are very appreciative of your responses, information, and comments. It is important to us to understand our community’s behavior and perspectives, and this helped us do so!

HOMEWOOD MOUNTAIN RESORT TO OPEN NEXT SEASON, WITHOUT NEW GONDOLA (article by Katelyn Welsh, Tahoe Daily Tribune)

HOMEWOOD, Calif. – Homewood Mountain Resort has announced plans to reopen for the 2025-2026 winter season after closing this 2024-2025 season. The resort will return without the highly anticipated new gondola, which is on hold for another year.

General manager Andy Buckley said the resort had initially aimed to have the new gondola installed for the upcoming season, but is waiting on the final details in a chain of permitting processes. The deadline to confirm this year’s install with the gondola installers has now come and gone, forcing the resort to push it off another year.

Season passes are going on sale mid-April, Buckley says, with an array of products for community members and visitors alike.

LAST CHANCE: KHP'S HOMEWOOD VISITATION SURVEY CLOSES TODAY!

Have you filled KHP's Homewood Visitation Survey out yet? We hope so, but if not, please follow the link here to complete: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/keephomewoodpublic

With Homewood closed for the 24/25 season, KHP is interested in how your skiing/riding changed, and what your expectations are for the coming 25/26 season. Your valuable input will help us keep Homewood public - and open!

This survey has 10 questions and should take 5 (ish) minutes to complete. First we will ask you about your recent skiing/riding history at Homewood. Next we will ask about where you skied/rode this season (24-25). Finally, we will ask about your future intentions.

Please respond to all questions for yourself only, and encourage friends and family to complete this survey as well. Your responses will be confidential.

This survey will close TUESDAY, April 2nd at 5pm PT.

Thank you in advance, Homewood Community!
