Steel Valley Elementary is excited to host its first Parent Night on Wednesday, August 26.

This event will include important information for parents and students as we prepare for the first school year inside our brand new building. There are two sessions to help accommodate parents and students - one begins at 5 p.m. and the second begins at 6 p.m.

Students and parents will be able to visit classrooms to see the student-centered design for each room. Students will also be able to check out the new cafeteria and enjoy a hot dog, chips, and water.

We can't wait to see you there!

Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Secretary Dr. Val Arkoosh today announced that eligible households will receive a $100 supplemental payment from the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

PA DHS will issue the $100 supplemental payments for households that both received LIHEAP during the 2025-26 season and include at least one family member who has a disability, is age 60 or older, or is a child under the age of six. Approximately 193,000 households will be automatically issued a supplemental payment to the same utility vendor who received their cash grant during the normal LIHEAP season. Households will receive a notice informing them that they are eligible and will receive the supplement.

“We know that even though winter is over, many Pennsylvanians may still need assistance with utility bills from last season. LIHEAP helps some of the Commonwealth's most vulnerable citizens – children, older Pennsylvanians, people with disabilities, and low-income families – make ends meet and keep their homes safer, and we are pleased to be able to offer this one-time supplemental payment to LIHEAP households,” said Secretary Arkoosh.

Today at theCarnegie Library of Homestead Miss Robin read We’re Going On A Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen. We had a blast! We acted out the book as Miss Robin read and then we marched around the library as the went on our own bear hunt. The children were able to feel sensory bags made up of things from the book. They felt the grass, the mud, the water, the forest, and the snow. They painted bear masks and took home a yummy snack after playing in the gym.

Look what's coming up in August! Ice Cream Storytime at Dell’s Sundae Grill, Saturday, August 22. Storytime at 11:30, ice cream at 12, FREE book fair at 12:30. You don't wanna miss this!! All children who participate in the storytime will receive a FREE ICE CREAM courtesy of Dell’s Sundae! 🍦

Hello, Steel Valley families!

While summer is still in full swing, it’s never too early to plan ahead for the start of the upcoming school year. Please note that our schools will be operating on a new schedule this year.

Breakfast will be available for all students, with high school beginning at 7:05, middle school at 7:30, and elementary school at 8.

Early drop-off is available for elementary students beginning at 7:30.

The high school day will officially start at 7:35 and end at 2:22, the middle school will begin at 8:05 and end at 3:08, and Steel Valley Elementary will begin at 8:25 and end at 3:20.

Please make plans now to ensure your students are ready to start their day at the appropriate time.

We’ll see everyone for the first day of school on August 31st!
