Join us to celebrate the life of one of Biscayne National Park's most influential historical figures: Sir Lancelot Jones.

In 2014, October 13th was officially designated “Lancelot Jones Day” by the State of Florida in honor of the life and influence Sir Lancelot Jones had on Biscayne National Park and South Florida. Join us to celebrate with guest speaker Antoinette Miller, a relative of Sir Lancelot Jones, who will be sharing stories and pictures of life living with Lancelot Jones.

Florida National Parks Association and South Florida National Parks and Preserve will be hosting the NOLS Wilderness First Responder Course for the first time in South Florida! Whether you’re pursuing a career as a professional guide, leading backcountry expeditions, or joining a search and rescue team, NOLS’ wilderness first responder certification courses remain the industry standard for wilderness medicine training, trusted by outdoor professionals worldwide.

Applications will be reviewed and prioritized based on factors such as operational need, frequency of remote or backcountry work, and the applicant’s ability to attend the full course.

Applications will be accepted through October 9, 2026 - limited capacity.

This training is intended for employees whose job duties may require them to work in remote, wilderness, backcountry, or other settings where access to definitive medical care may be delayed. The course fee is $975 per person, however NPS employees selected to participate will receive a scholarship funded by the Florida National Parks Association to cover the course fee. The course includes both daytime and nighttime training sessions and requires full participation each day. Course dates are December 1-10, 2026 and will be held at Biscayne National Park.

Rainy weather didn’t keep these Junior Rangers away!

Check out how we celebrated Junior Ranger Day at Biscayne National Park! Rangers from Biscayne and Everglades National Park led fun educational activities like wildlife observation, excavation areas and plankton labs. Kids of all ages (and some grown up kids too) had a great time exploring and learning throughout the Dante Fascell Visitor Center ✨

The Florida National Parks Association is proud to have been a part of this through the Aid to NPS funding initiative, covering Junior Ranger Day activities and year round Junior Ranger books and badges! We hope to continue inspiring future generations for years to come!

Stay tuned for more Junior Ranger information and events!
