Dear friends,
I have some sad news to share. In the early morning hours of June 4th, a fire broke out at the home and business of Alan Parks. Acting quickly, he attempt to save some small amount of his worldly possessions, but by the time the fire department arrived everything was engulfed in flames. By the morning the entire structure, all his artwork, his equipment, all his negatives, hard drives… everything were gone.
The good news is that no one was hurt in the fire.
I know all your good wishes and condolences are with him. Just a few days after the accident, Alan left to go commercial fishing. For a photographer, the unthinkable… he left without a camera. I don’t know the state of his insurance, but I’m sure you know how the wheels of bureaucracy turn: slowly.
Executive director of the Bunnell Street Art Center, Asia Freeman and I have decided to put a call out to FOA’s (friends of Alan’s) and the friends of the Homer Photo Fest to create a fund to purchase a replacement camera for Alan. This won’t ease his burden nor replace all that he has lost, but it will lighten his sprit and get him back to making art, no better medicine for an artist.
To contribute, Asia has set up a site on Youcaring.com. All transactions are secure and confidential, if you wish. All the money collected goes to Alan (less credit card processing fees), so this is truly a charitable site. I know we all wish Alan the best. If you’re so inclined, this is a good way to show your concern and support.
