It’s time to start planning for summer, so before your calendar fills up, apply for AHEC of a Summer! Students currently in grades 9-12 are eligible for this free program, which will run May 26-June 12. Gain hands-on experience, high-school credit, and volunteer hours. That’s a wrap! We closed out our program with awards and highlights from the past three weeks. Lashanda Shelton, Director of Bayou North Area Health Education Center, was with us, as were friends, family, and some of the hospital staff who helped us along the way. We truly had “A-HEC” of a Summer!

We had an enlightening visit at the Claiborne Parish Health Unit yesterday! Nurses Erin White and Tasha Williams told us about all the ways their clinic provides services for the people of our parish. Sanitarian Bobby Slayton told us about his role in making sure the food being served in restaurants, convenience stores, and other spots is safe. And Toka Bradshaw and Barbara Parker, experts on communicable diseases, gave us the facts about STIs. Just another memorable day in AHEC!

A visit to Dr. Palmer’s dental office is always a highlight of our AHEC experience.
