25 Years Ago Today, A Legend Passed Away
On Aug 28, 2001, Professor Remy A. Presas, the Founder and Grandmaster of Modern Arnis, passed away.
It’s hard to believe that 25 years have passed since he left us, far too early.
For many of us, it seems like yesterday.
I am sure those reading this will remember where they were when the heartbreaking news came.
He is undoubtedly one of the greatest martial artists of all time and influenced many martial artists during his lifetime.
He left behind many students who continue to teach and spread his beloved Modern Arnis.
The t-shirts at this year’s Michigan camp are in honor of his memory and his impact on many of us.
He taught us more than just his beloved art of Modern Arnis. He taught us Filipino culture. He taught us how to connect different martial arts.
More importantly, he taught us the importance of connections between martial arts instructors and human beings.
Since his passing, many students worldwide have continued to teach and pass the art on to future generations.
Among them are Professors Chuck Gauss, Ken Smith, and Gaby Roloff. They continue to propagate the art in honor of their beloved teacher and founder of the art, Professor Presas.
Professor, you will never be forgotten.
RIP Professor Remy A. Presas.
