Its great to hear Seattle will provide passage for salmon that the dams had blocked.

"The dams also cut off roughly 40% of the Skagit River’s habitat from migrating fish. By the time the federal government began the process of reissuing the dams’ operating license in the 2010s, bull trout, steelhead, and Chinook salmon connected to the Skagit system had all been listed under the Endangered Species Act."

For years, Seattle Public Utilities insisted its hydroelectric dams on the Skagit River were not harming salmon.

Save the date! Please join us for the first KEC Presents of 2026. On January 18 at the Village Green Community Center from 3:00 - 5:00 pm, speaker Brian Footen, co-founder of EarthViews Conservation Society shares how their organization created the interactive visual and scientific documentation of over 2,700 miles of Puget Sound coastline by kayak and skiff. He'll answer your questions and share how you can get involved with this important work.
