Holyoke Youth Girls Softball League’s Jamboree was a huge success! 🥎☀️

Our youth were able to enjoy the beautiful weather, play softball, and enjoy some pizza with teammates and families.

Shoutout to Nayroby Rosa (OneHolyoke CDC), Harry Melendez and Capri Pizza for coming through in the clutch at the last minute!

A special thank you goes out to our HYGSL board members, China, and her boyfriend DJ Haze for providing photography and music throughout the event.

Good afternoon,

We are less than 24 hours away from our exciting HYGSL Instructional League Jamboree!

First and foremost, I would like to thank all of our families for placing your trust in HYGSL. This event and season would not be possible without your support and participation.

As a reminder, all youth players are expected to arrive tomorrow at 10:30 AM. Following the scrimmage, we will be serving party pizzas from Capri along with beverages for players and families.

We are also hoping to have music and a few games and activities aside from softball to make the day even more enjoyable. Our goal is to conclude the event by approximately 12:00 PM.

If you have any questions or concerns leading up to the jamboree, please feel free to respond to pm.

Due to the 95% chance of rain expected, HYGSL has decided to reschedule tomorrow’s Jamboree to next Saturday, 5/16, at 10:30 a.m.

Games will remain on schedule. That means this Tuesday we expect our first matchup of the season between the Pink Team and the Green Team at Kennedy Field at 5:45 p.m.

Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to seeing everyone next Saturday for a great day of softball, music, food, and fun!

Online Registration for the HYGSL Pre-K to 2nd Grade Instructional Division is now closed.

Over the next two weeks, our team will be working on assigning players to teams and organizing rosters. Families will receive phone calls with details about their child’s team, coach, and practice time.

HYGSL Spring 2026 Instructional Division Update

While our competitive league is taking a pause this season, the instructional division of the Holyoke Youth Girls Softball League is STILL happening this spring — and we’re excited to welcome our youngest players!

Our instructional program (Pre-K through 2nd grade) is co-ed and open to all youth interested in learning the game in a fun, supportive environment.

Instructionals provide an opportunity for players to learn key fundamentals including:

• Team building
• Catching
• Hitting
• Throwing
• Fielding ground balls
• Situational game knowledge

All while having FUN and building confidence!

The Holyoke Youth Girls Softball League (HYGSL) would like to share an important update with our community regarding the upcoming Spring 2026 season.

It is with heavy hearts that the Board has decided that HYGSL will not be running a competitive in-city league this spring. For the 2026 season, we will be offering Instructional Softball only.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, our league has faced ongoing challenges with player registration numbers. Despite our continued efforts, low enrollment—combined with a lack of volunteer capacity and several additional factors—has made it increasingly difficult to field more than three teams per division and properly support a competitive league. Simply put, we do not currently have the numbers—either in players or volunteers—to sustain the program at the level our athletes deserve.

In order to preserve the long-term health and sustainability of the league, we believe it is necessary to take this season to reset, rebuild, and refocus.

During this time, we plan to:
• Recruit additional board members and volunteers
• Strengthen our organizational structure
• Host clinics for girls in grades 3–8 focused on fundamentals and skill development
• Rebuild participation and community engagement

Our goal is to come back stronger, more organized, and positioned for long-term success for the girls of our community.

We sincerely apologize for the delay in this decision and for notifying families at such short notice. This was not an easy choice, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this transition.
