Beaver gone home!💔🙏

Charles Berube (Charlie) passed away peacefully at home on July 27.

Charlie was born in 1932 in Holyoke, to George and Evelyn Berube. He was a graduate of Holyoke High School class of 1950.

Charlie was an Army Medic during the Korean War, stationed in Germany. When he returned from Germany, he went to Holyoke Community to get his Associate’s degree followed by a Bachelor’s from AIC.

He held many jobs throughout the years in Publishing, Marketing and Sales. His final professional job as a specialty marketing salesman for Geiger Brothers was his true calling. He retired in his early 70’s for his favorite job, as an associate of Grandma and Grandpa daycare.

Charlie was also a proud member of the Beavers Club, and he was extremely proud of the many charitable projects he and the Beavers completed over the years.

He was predeceased by the love of his life, Claire P Berube (Fogarty), whom he married in 1957. Together they lived, loved and raised a wonderful family in Chicopee. Pat and Charlie enjoyed traveling, shopping and going to the movies. As avid sports fans they loved the Red Sox and UCONN women’s basketball. They relished their trips around the country to see the Sox play in other stadiums. Charlie also frequented his grandchildren’s sporting events up until the youngest graduated from college this May.

Charlie loved watching his family grow. Sundays were spent with any number of his 5 children and 13 grandchildren visiting sometimes with the 7 great grandchildren. Spaghetti dinners on Sunday afternoons during Patriots football games were always a favorite.

Charlie was also predeceased by his son Steven Berube who passed away in 2020. He leaves his remaining children, Debbie Berube of Greenfield, Cindy Socha and her husband Bruce of Chicopee, daughter in law Lisa Berube of Westfield, Mark Berube and his wife Katy of Easthampton, and Matt Berube and his wife Robin of Chicopee.

Charlie also leaves his loving brother-in-law John Fogarty and his wife Debbie of Holyoke, and his dear sister-in-law Joanna Lau of Long Island City, NY. Charlie was also predeceased by his loving brother Denis of Kiawah Island, Georgia.

Charlie leaves his 13 grandchildren, Chelsie Kazmierski and her spouse Bill, Chris Berube, Joe Socha and his spouse Chantal, Stephanie Celik and her spouse Ben, AJ Berube, Shealyn Laprade and her spouse Jake, Meagan Villarreal, Taylor Cohen and her spouse Joe, Connor Berube and his spouse Rachel, Casey Villarreal, Sean Berube, Brendan Berube, and Aidan Berube, as well as 7 great-grandchildren with 1 on the way, and numerous cherished nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday July 31 at 10:00am in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street, Holyoke. Burial is at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will take place on Wednesday July 30 from 5:00 to 7:00pm in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke.
