Ryan Observatory at Muddy Run

Ryan Observatory at Muddy Run Ryan Observatory at Muddy Run is an astronomer's dream in your own back yard. Other special events will be posted as they approach.

Located in Southern Lancaster County, this observatory is open to the public for monthly viewing events. Ryan Observatory at Muddy Run was built in 2016 by Exelon Corp. as a community outreach center and research facility. It is located in Southern Lancaster County and lies in truly dark skies, away from the light pollution of much of the surrounding area. It is by far one of the most innovative and well thought-out and technologically sophisticated projects of it's type in Pennsylvania.

Did you decorate a stone for Serpens the Rock snake? Our Community Arts project can be found next to the binocular telescope. If you're coming out this weekend make sure to check him out! If you hadn't painted a stone yet, don't worry. You can still decorate a one at the upcoming open house to add.

Now that you have fought the clouds, endured the cold, struggled with unpredictable space weather, atmospheric conditions AND your camera settings you have a bit of an idea of what astronomers and astrophotographers face. I commend you. It was awesome right? Here's our wrap up from NOAA. Wishing you clear skies and hoping you'll join us on December 13 for our open house.
